Hi, I have been on MFP since July but I committed to it only in September. My starting weight was about 100 kilos(5' 4") and I have lost about 9 pounds with an intake of 1400-1430(this is what MFP set for me).

However, I calculated my BMR and it turned out to be 1700 so I thought I'd up my intake to 1650-1700 atleast. I am trying to do this gradually...100 calories up a week. For the past 5 days I have been at 1530.

When I started 5 days ago I was 95.9 kilos and now I am 96.4 kilos. Is it because I am upping my calories? How much time does it take for the body to adjust to a higher calorie intake? Will I not lose weight if I increase it to 1700?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Im almost the same weight as you (98kg) and also 5ft 4. So far in over a year Ive lost 30lbs (I have thyroid problems so weight loss is slower for me and I also didnt take it seriously until about 8 weeks) I too have just upped my calories! I was sitting at 1300 for at least the last 6 months with little or no movement. Ive joined a gym and have a personal trainer so figured I would need to at least meet my BMR to stay "healthy" especially now I exercise in excess of 4 hours a week. Ive jumped to 1700 but admit I float around 1500 - 1600 at the minute. Ive also had to up my protein intake so an extra protein shake and 30g of nuts a day has helped me reach the new cals level. I dont know how much it will impact the scales because they havent moved for me much lately anyway! It has to be worth a shot and so many people on here have advised me to eat at least BMR as thats what you need to maintain your body if you were in a coma, so it really is the very minimum.

Feel free to add me :)

I think I bumped mine up around the same time as you. ;) I gained a little bit, but then it dropped off dramatically! And even since then, I've gained a little bit, but I think being patient is the key: it'll disappear in a few days or so.

Varies by person but 4-6 weeks. What you shoudl see more immediately is more energy and the ability to push harder in your workouts, especially if you are weight training.
