Anyone and everyone feel free to drop an abbrevia ontion and what it means. Im not hip to many of them yet. Also, i gained some cool company on here yesterday, but I'm lacking a potential coach style buddy. My goals are modest, but I'm pretty clueless about what exactly i should be doing, or maybe I am doing it and just don't know. Let me know if your interested in advising me. Thanks

MFP – My Fitness Pal
HW – Heaviest Weight
SW – Starting Weight
CW – Current Weight
GW – Goal Weight
TOM – Time of the Month
NSV – Non Scale Victory
30DS – 30 Day Shred (fitness DVD)
Bump – a word used to bump the thread to the top of the forum
HRM – Heart Rate Monitor
BMR = basal metabolic rate (the amount of calories you burn at bare minimum to stay alive)
TDEE = total daily energy expenditure (the amount of calories you burn in an average day)
P90X,SI6,C25K, Intensity – these are all fitness programmes
ED = Eating Disorder Usually on MyFitnessPal it refers to anorexia or bullemia where someone does not eat enough to be healthy. It can also refer to binge eating or other conditions involving excessive eating or odd cravings.
EM2WL = Eat More to Weigh Less - A concept and group on MFP that advocates eating more than many dieters do in order to raise one's metabolic rate and avoid plateaus where weight loss stalls. A related concept is "starvation mode" where by eating too little, one's body begins to shutdown in order to save energy.
OP = Original Poster - In some longer message board threads, the topic may wander and people end up responding to each other. This term is used to refer back to the person who started the topic.0 -
I'm not much of a coach, and I'm still learing the jargon...
NSV = non scale victory, great to keep one motivated if the scale is not budging but the inches are or maybe you just fell fitter.
TDEE = Total daily energy expenditure. ie. how many estimated calories you burn going about your daily business
there are plenty of others that escape my foggy brain this morning!0 -

I am relatively new here and appreciated the definitions but I have seen several posts about "eating clean" and am wondering exactly what that means. Does it mean staying within calorie limits or eating only whole, unprocessed food or what? Maybe it means different things to different people? Thanks.0

YM: ya mom
Couldn't help myself. I know there's no crying in baseball, but there's humor in fitness, right???0 -
thanks for asking ! I didn't know a few... what does onederland mean?0
-
onederland = when someone gets into the 100's from the 200's.
Eating clean is sort of open to interpretation but from what I understand it means avoiding processed/prepared foods and eating more realwhole foods. Some go as far as to do all organic and/or cutting out all white foods (bread, pasta, refined sugar) but you're still way better off if you go from eating all packaged (like frozen dinners) foods to making your own home cooked meals with fresh meats and veggies. Less sodium, preservatives, chemicals, etc.0 -
