The chocolate cake is calling my name!

My parents (Who I currently live with) work in a cafe and they bring home loads of food from the cafe, some of it is REALLY good and rather healthy, but then they bring home chocolate cake. Please help me! I am over my calories today and I do not want the cake but I am a boredom eater with bad self control.

Welcome!

Think of your long-term goals... Try logging the calories as if you ate the cake, and think about whether you *really* want that many extra... Or have a drink of water and go out or go to bed!

try and resist it, if you still want it after that have it the next day, but a tiny slice

I added it to my diary and freaked out just a little haha, that piece of chocolate cake, if I indulged in the extra piece I would be almost a kilo behind what I would be if I keep up how I was today. Considering today was not the best day that is hardly what I want.
Time to brush my teeth, do some sit ups and hunker down for some good old tv in bed.

Sounds like you already succeeded, but I'll impart to you words a MFP member said to me when I was tempted by workplace cakes: "you can have what you want now, or you can have what you've wanted for years".

Did the trick for me :)
  • There is nothing like logging the food and seeing what effect it will have to turn me waaaaaay off.
I'd still have have a tiny bit tomorrow though... heheh

I plan to have some tomorrow ;)
I have already logged it into my diary so it is there for tomorrow and I can indulge after work =)

Well done for resisting, and GREAT planning for tomorrow! That's they way to make it a lifestyle change instead of a diet.. excellent choice.

    Good choice :)

I decided to let myself have a cake or two on my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Kept within my calorie goal, but really didn't enjoy the cakes half as much as I expected to. What a let-down!

They will bring cake home on multiple occasions, so this isn't he last piece of cake in the world.
Wait till you've reached your goal, hen eat the cake.

Or do the e xcersise you need to burn the cake off before you eat it.

Also, you could freeze it and tell yourself you'll have it later, and then next week throw it out! Or donate it to work? I take all my mom's goodies to work.

I faced the same dilemma yesterday. I ended up having the chocolate cake and it was soooo good! I work hard everyday at staying healthy. I indulge when I want, but I get back on track as soon as possible. One piece of cake did not make me gain weight anymore than one day of exercise made me lose weight. It's a continuous process. Just keep moving forward!

Look forward to having it tomorrow. Check out something called "urge surfing" (google it) - I recently learned some good tips from that to just be conscious and aware of cravings, but not give in to them.

That's such a great quote for the situation!!!! :) Very motivating, which is what I need as well.
