I run around 2.5 miles but about a mile into it my hip starts hurting and even when I walk around my hip ops...I tried changing my form straightening my back. I have had my running shoes for 1 1/2 years could it be that?
Please send some ideas...

Shoes is possibly the issue. Running shoes should be replaced every 3-6 months or between 400- 600 miles. I am going to guess that you probably have more than that on those shoes. That's where I would start. Stretching before and after your run might also make a difference!

I have the same problem! I posted a week ago about it and I've had problems like this previously. You gotta stretch really well before a run. I read online that the hip discomfort comes from your IT band. I'm taking a two week break from running and have been stretching and walking a lot without any pain. I'm hoping to start back up with running next week. If the pain is still there I'll bite the bullet (aka. dump out my wallet) and go to go to the doc and or chiropractor.

    Hope you feel better!!

I don't stretch before any run, but I do body loosening activities. Stretch after your run. I use a Massage Therapist to loosen my hips with an Active Release Technique that helped a bunch. Foam roll your hip flexors. With anyone that is a runner, hip weaknesses are common, squats and lunges help.

I've had the same type of problems in the past.. I think mine was due to a piriformis strain, which is in the same area as the IT band. I had to stop running for months. Now that I'm back at it, I find I can only run every other day. Running 2 or 3 days in a row seriously aggravates the problem. Mine is only on the left side.

I have a friend who is a triathlete, and she has one leg slightly shorter than the other. She experiences the same type of problem and can only run every other day.

Maybe try going in to a running store that will do a free gait analysis? Then have them suggest the correct type of running shoe for you. (You don't have to buy the shoes there, just pretend like you're going to...) The right shoe can make all the difference.

the latest fad is dynamic stretching before a run, static stretching after. Static stretching before a run, according to some newer research, supposedly leads to increased risk of injury. Sometimes fads are great ideas. Personally, I actually like this fad, and think it's a good idea. But in 5 years they'll disagree and decide something else is better. YMMV.

But if you've had shoes for a year and a half and actually worn them for all that time, take them and yourself to a proper running shoe store (not footlocker, but Elite or Fleet Feet or somewhere like that) and get fitted for shoes more appropriate to what you're using them for. Save those for mowing the lawn!
