Lost ten pounds and don't see a difference?

While it is getting noticed by some other people, I have yet to see a difference in the way I look, even though I'm only 15 pounds away from my first goal. Is this normal?

The difference is likely that you're looking at yourself in the mirror every day, so it's harder to notice an incremental difference. To someone who hasn't seen you in days or weeks, the change will seem more drastic.
Other people can also see you from different angles than you can in the mirror.
You might also be accustomed to looking at yourself and focusing on what you consider to be flaws, rather than taking in the overall picture.0 -

and Muscle is denser, so you will be building it while losing fat, which is not so dense...
^^ is right, you will not notice as much cause your in the mirror everyday. When I was in basic training, I gained 25 pounds of muscle and didn't notice a difference. When I came home for leave, EVERYONE noticed Mikey wasn't so puny no more0 -
The other way to gauge your loss is how your clothes fit......especially that pair of jeans/skirt/blouse that was just a bit "too" tight before.......)))0

Take pictures of yourself. I never would have believed the changes in my body but I'm in a group that we take pictures at incremental stages and you can SEE the progress which makes the change that much more amazing!0

I didn't physically see a difference until I lost 30lbs, though my measurements and clothing showed otherwise.0 -
I've lost over 50 so far, but because I'm such a bigger person, it doesn't show as drastically as it would for a smaller person. You have to make sure you are thinking realistically for your body type. Take pictures, do the clothes thing... At one point, I got so frustrated with trying to see the change that I covered my mirrors from where my shoulders are down, so that I'd stop focusing.0

If it helps, I've lost over 50 lbs and I still don't really see much of a difference. Yes, some of my clothes are bigger, but I think the reality is that I'm shrinking proportionately all over, so it's a bit more difficult to see the changes. As others have pointed out, we see ourselves every day in the mirror, so we're not always the best judge of what is taking place. Take your measurements, worry less about the scale, and feel good about what you've accomplished! :O)0

It really depends on the person. I personally have lost around 35 pounds, and there's not much drastic difference in my appearance unlike some other people who look so different with less weight loss.
I agree with the comments here. Don't focus too much on the scale. Check your measurements, or even how your clothes fit you now. But at the end of the day, it's good that you're losing weight. Cheers!0 -

I would feel okay with ignoring the scale if I could see a difference in the mirror. :mad: You guys are right though, I will try taking pictures and looking at those.0

I didn't really notice a difference until I compared side by side head shots. I noticed that I had a neck again first.
I had other signs along the way too. I discovered that the creatures that dwell inside clothes dryers that eat just one sock also put longer draw strings in gym shorts. :bigsmile:0 -
It took about 35 pounds for me and my boyfriend to see the difference. Since I see myself in the mirror every day (and he sees me every day too), it's hard to notice the little changes. Once I took pictures, though, it was pretty obvious.
I'm used to it now, but there were definitely a few weeks where I'd feel shocked when I looked in the mirror and didn't look as fat as I thought I was. I'm sure I'll go through the same thing as I lose the next 40 pounds, and the next, and so on.0 -
I have only lost 8lbs in over a year but I've put on quite a bit of muscle. I barely notice but lots of people who don't see me very often have said I look like I've lost weight.
The difference is gradual so you don't notice it much yourself, plus we do tend to focus on what needs doing, not what we've done!0 -
Don't be discouraged! Go to the grocery and pick up a ten pound item.0
