Starting journey TODAY!

I signed up on this website a while ago but never did anything with it but today that is changing.

I need a little help though on what I should use for my activity setting. I only walk for 35 minutes a day (all I have time for right now).

I am 5'6, 259.5 lbs, 30 yrs old and female. Right now I have it set to sedentary (but am not sure if that is the correct one) and MFP is telling me to "net" 1390. (with the goal of losing 2lbs per week)

Does this sound right? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Should be a good place to start!

You might have to actually increase your calories at some point in your journey if you hit a hard plateau, but you should experience some rapid fat loss right off the bat at those numbers.

Let me know if you get hung up anywhere!

It sounds like an okay place to start. You can always adjust down the road, if you are hungry all the time, or if you are not losing weight. I am 41, 5'7'' and currently weigh 243 pounds. I have mine set to 1500, because right now that is working well for me. I am losing at least 2, and sometimes 3 pounds a week (I am also very active now, and do a combo of riding a recumbent bike and LOTS of walking/hiking).

What in your opinion would be considered "lightly active"? And should I eat back exercise calories?

    Hi there!!

When i was 266 MFP placed my cals at 1390 too and i set my activity level at sedentary.

I am now 216ish and MFP automatically lowered my cals to 1220 per day, not taking into consideration exercise etc.

If you feel its too low then adjust your settings but it's working out for me at the moment.

    Hope that helps :)

Do you eat exercise calories back?

For the majority I definitely don't, my food diary is open so you can see that :)

There are alot of people who have their own opinions but personally if i eat my exercise calories back then I dont lose as much weight that week.

When I am out of the 200's i may incorporate it but not for now.

Oh FYI i exercise on average 3 - 4 times per week for an average of 45 minutes.

Add me if you like :)
