I have always been of the opinion that you can eat anything as long as you control the portions.. Well now i feel like that is clearly wrong if i am going to reach my goals.. So tell me what is your #1 no no's for food.

Nothing. This is a lifestyle change. Not a diet. If you can't change your lifestyle to accommodate things you love to eat then you're doing it wrong.0

Eat all the food
Boom.0 -
Like the earlier poster I never fry stuff, well, not conventionally, or roast either. I do both with no grease or fat at all. Works just fine so far.0
-
Amen! No fried foods EVER ... nothing good can come of that. I agree it's a lifestyle change, however, something things are just better left alone!0
-
Or just break up.
Solid advice.0 -

Portion Control will always be #1.
Otherwise, I try to limit sugar intake.
If you eat a lot of sodium...drink twice as much water to flush it out.0 -
The only thing I can say I have almost completely gave up is fried (though I do have an occassional french fry-an my portion is now 6 fries no more) but other then that grilled, steamed or baked!0

nothing fried or breaded. It turns me off now just seeing the fat. Love my sweets tho !!!0
-
eat what you want using moderation and portion control... as someone said above diets dont work. if you like pizza it is ok to have a few slices every now and then same with fried chicken, beer, wine and whatever else floats your boat. you just cant become attached to eating those things everyday.0

Or just break up.
Solid advice.
Best advice I have ever seen.0 -

I don't have any no-no foods. I have foods I can only eat every now and then and I have foods that I reaaly control the portion size. If you don't allow yourself the foods you really love but are bad for you, when you do finally give in and eat it, your wil definitely eat to much.0

The only food I am avoiding are cheese balls. I could eat nearly a tubful at a time so I just don't have them around. Anything else, I can handle proper portions.0
-
I drink wine, eat pringles, salted peanuts, for snacks n lots of really nice foods also! you don`t have to give up anything0

Ice cream - - - - any kind - - - - any place - - - - any time!!!!!
Finally hit myself upside the head and said, "Don't buy ice cream!!!!!"0 -
I tried cutting things out entirely, and telling myself NEVER again, but it doesn't work. Instead I've had to figure out how to work what I love into my diet. My rule is everything in moderation. It's hard some days reminding myself not to have that extra can of Pepsi (which is my main comfort food), or limiting the amount of potato chips I eat in a day (oh, how I love chips!), but it's a lot easier than saying never again, and then binging.0

I save my alcohol and treats for the wknd. This way I can have the stuff I love, yet it's in moderation.0

I have Gateway foods that I just can't mess with:
Chips - really only 11? It takes so much willpower to stop and I know that sounds pathetic!
Pizza & Breadsticks - 1 pizza? 1 breadstick? At my lowest times, I easily ate a whole Jack's or Tombstone all by myself.
I have ate just a serving of chips and I have done just a slice of pizza and felt great about myself and proud. But that happens 1 out of ever 5 times and really requires all the stars & planets to align. Not worth the risk.
I just think it is the journey that I am on now. I hope to one day think about those foods differently. I hope to find my control, my discipline on my way.0 -
oil or butter on popcorn
If you set your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.....

I limit myself to how many times I indulge in cheesy bread.
I can eat that stuff all day.0 -

X2. I still eat everything I have always loved. Just less often and in smaller quantities.0 -
No carbs. No protein. No fat. No sugar. No salt.0

I used to do this thing where I ate a lot of different kinds of food and got fat.
Now, I do this thing where I eat a lot of different kinds of food and lose the fat. I just don't eat as much of it as before.0 -
People will say "nothing" but it comes down to individual preference. Adherence is the largest factor of success with any weight loss/fitness program. If you have a hard time indulging in _____ in moderation, you may need to drastically reduce your intake to keep you from bingeing on it. If you say you'll eat healthy at the drive-thru and then end up with something other than what you intended (cheeseburger and fries instead of just a grilled chicken sammich), then it means you need to start planning your lunches ahead of time and bringing them instead. If three meals a day doesn't satisfy you, add snacks. If snacking causes you to eat too much, cut them out.
It's really about you, figuring out what works for you and your lifestyle, and figuring out what you can stick to.
We're not all special little snowflakes - we're all remarkably similar in the way our body processes and stores energy - however, our lifestyles are all drastically different, we all have our weaknesses and strengths, and the key to success is having a good battle strategy. To do so, you need intel. That means taking notes and learning about yourself along the way.0 -
No carbs. No protein. No fat. No sugar. No salt.
But that means no food! :laugh:0
