Hello all,
I set my cal/day to 1200 and then burn off about 500cal/day with exercise. BUT I don't know how much I should eat (to lose as quickly as possible but in a healthy way)
If I eat 1700 will I lose - or plateau?
If I eat 1200 will I go into starvation mode - or just lose faster?
(My BMR is approximately 1430)
Thankyou

Net 1200 per day.0

I had more success when I netted at my BMR (eating 1400 plus exercise calories). Netting 1200 was too low for me. I've had a steady weight loss of 1.2 lbs a week doing that (I was also strength training which I think was key to my success). I'm now on the JUDDD diet which is great and the weight loss has sped up (it's only been a week). It's worth checking out the group0

Generally you have to do some trial and error. Some people here recommend eating back most of your exercise calories, some only eat back half of their exercise calories, and others eat back none. Some people get too hungry at 1200, some people are full, depending on what types of foods they tend to eat (processed vs. fresh).
I eat 1350 every day of mostly fresh foods and do not eat back my exercise calories, however I am 40 lbs over my ideal weight. I tend to lose 2.2 lbs per week doing this.0 -

so 1430 working out 3x a week for about an hour.....
1430x1.6=2288 is appx TDEE
2288-20%=1830
2288-30%=1602
If body fat is in the 20s% then only cut 20% off TDEE and net around 1800 daily.
If body fat is above 30% then cut 30% from TDEE and net around 1600 daily.
Or
Follow this and set MFP as a static number that youd eat daily and dont worry about eating back cals and all that crap.

Thanks for the helpful replies.
I'm going to go by the net calories and monitor the results.
From there I will be in a better position to make modifications to my routine.

My calorie intake per day is 1560.Out side of walking(facilities manager w/seven buildings)I do not workout. If I eat just under my intake,I have lost on average 1lb. per day(14lbs in 3 weeks)Water helps to curve the hunger sometimes, but my "crack" is chocolate,so some of the 100 calorie snacks do help.
Good luck!0
