    Hi Maggie,

Congrats on a 6 pound loss! That's terrific!

What helped me stick with my eating and exercise plan for the year it took me to lose 45 pounds was visualizing the woman I wanted to become: Healthier, fitter and in less pain (I also have arthritis). Like you, I have one daughter and someday I hope my grandchildren are waiting for me at the finish line of a 10K or 5K. I have a lot of older people in my life who are very sedentary and I've seen first hand how being sedentary really constricts your life. It's a conscious decision on my part to not go down that path.

Unfortunately, there are no magic tips and tricks to help stay on track. You fundamentally have to want to change yourself more than you want to stay the same. It's a lot of hard work but it's very worth it! I watched and logged everything I ate and made sure exercise was a regular part of my day. But I also made sure I didn't deprive myself of anything I really wanted...just made sure it worked into my daily food log.

If you take a long term view, recognize that you're going to be at this for awhile, and make a commitment to log into MFP every day and stay on track, I think your chances of success are excellent. The biggest difference I see between my MFP friends who are losing weight and those who aren't is the "losers" are logging into MFP daily.

    Best wishes!!
