Baseball Playoff Games Take Too Long

Seems near impossible to get a playoff game done in less than 3 hours.

I think all 9 inning games should take about 2.5-3 hours.

In the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, most baseball playoff games took less than 3 hours. Games only went more than 3 hours if there were extra innings.

I agree, Believe me, I love baseball, but the games are way too drawn out now. Most batters have to step out of the box after each pitch, unstrap and re-strap their batting gloves after each pitch. Just get in there an hit like the old days!!! Also, the pitchers need to speed up their game. I swear some of them take almost a minute between pitches! LOL!

Pitchers are supposed to have a time limit between pitches and this rule is in the books but hardly enforced (http://www.nesn.com/2010/05/should-mlb-institute-a-pitch-clock.html ). This should be enforced via a pitch clock, like the NBA's shot clock.

Excessive step outs by batters should be strikes against the batter.

That should help speed up the game.

IMO, the beauty of baseball is that it isn't a timed sport. You can't run out a clock to preserve a lead, you have to get at least 27 outs. The playoffs take longer because you're supposed to be playing the best teams in baseball, so they're supposed to be close, or "drawn out".

But what about the perception of product quality? The long games make it so much harder to stay up until the end, at least for those in Eastern and Central time zones. We also have shorter attention spans and games are getting longer. Baseball is not alone, as NFL and NBA games are also taking longer to complete as well.

I really do enjoy baseball but I'd like to see game times similar to what was more commonplace 20-30 years ago. The longest game of the 1977 World Series (a 12 inning game) took less time to complete than the shortest game of the 2009 World Series.

@DM.....I'm watching the game and really can't imagine anything that could make it any shorter. From what I've seen, the games seem to move along. I've gone to a few games at Nationals Park, and it felt like I was only sitting for a few minutes. I like it just the way it is. :)
