A mere technicality?

I am aiming towards one day doing a half marathon. However, I am torn regarding what I would consider completing (air quotes here) the event. I lean towards thinking that to get bragging rights and that coveted car sticker, I would have to run the whole distance. My peeps are telling me they all run/walk. What I would consider a successful effort determines a lot regarding reaching my goals and training for them. Opinions?
