Would P90X be okay with a bum ankle??

I broke my ankle about 8 weeks ago and they finally have me in a regular brace now. I know I can't attempt my Insanity but thought about giving P90X a go. Any ideas or suggestions? I have a bet going on to lose 12 pounds by Dec. 31 so I need to be doing something! Thanks everyone

There are some DVDs where I think it could give you a real problem - but you always have the option to modify!
Plyometrics for example is all jump training (kind of like insanity - just not as hard) - but you always have the option to do a step move rather than a jump!
You'll just have to try out the different DVDS and make sure that your ankle is okay with it. Do push ups bother you? There are a lot of pushups in chest and back, yoga, chest shoulders and triceps, and core synergistics...0 -
What do you get if you win the bet, besides smaller.
P90X isn't low impact.0 -

Well just kidding - thinking about it now, you could always do all of those on your knees!!0 -
If I don't lose 12 pounds by then my friend gets to go cash the $100 check I just wrote her. This is a motivation thing and I don't exactly want to lose that money!!!! If P90X doesn't work any other suggestions?0

You could do some of the strength training videos.. except legs and back because it requires alot of balance moves.. also most of the cardio ones you wouldn't be able to do either.. probably best to find something else.0

It's possible to lose weight with diet alone. If you can move around it's easier. If you go into a really hard workout routine your muscles can temporarly retain water which can work against you're goal.
6 lbs a month isn't hard if you're very over weight but if you're close to your goal it can take time. Lots of variables.0 -

I agree. You could try following the P90X diet plan if you want. I've had huge success with it following the "fat shredder" ratios (30% carbs, 20% fat, 50% protein).0 -
I know thats what I was afraid of. Retaining water. I am really watching my diet and tracking everything...NOW. It's a process but one I'm going to be very commited to! What about JIllian Micheals 30 day shred. I could just substitute for the cardio portion and do knee push-ups.0

If I were you I would only do the weight lifting dvd's and Ab Rippper X. I would be extremely careful with back and legs day.0

The health of your ankle comes first before that bet with your friend. Otherwise, if you go ahead with a program that is not appropriate for you right now, you're risking re-injury. Or problems down the line that will reach up and bite you.
Be sure your ankle is completely all better and the muscles rehabbed before even thinking about anything impactful like this. All too often it's people who are completely out of shape or have had an injury that look to these programs to "get in shape quick", when the reality is that one has to work up to higher-impact programs. Even then, if one has something long-standing going on with one's particular body, one can't really do them. But the good news, is there are lots of other things you can do to get proper exercise. Ask your physical therapist(if you don't have one yet, get one for that rehab)what you should be doing, pay attention, and follow the recommendations to the letter. If the PT is worth their salt and you follow through, your ankle will be in even better shape than before. Good rehab makes ALL the difference. Ask me how I know(knee injury nearly 2 years ago, excellent recovery, successfully rehabbed). I had a really good practitioner supervising me the whole way.0 -

Yep. Most of those leg exercises put a lot of stress on individual ankles....balance squats, wall squats, the various lunges, skating, etc.0 -
the shoulders/arms and the abs dvd are the only ones that will not require you to use your ankle, but I would not reccomend any others. what about row machine or stationary bike or swimming using a pull float. diet restrction will help lose the pounds. maybe even try a meal replacement protein shake (I use Isagenix w/cleansing when I cannot work out and it is amazing)0
