Detox, purge, whatever you call it....is it safe/effective?

I'm not one to invest tons of money in non-proven miracle cures for some vague physical problem.
However, some of my gym friends ARE.
Just curious if anyone has some good links etc to actual science on this stuff.

I'm of the general opinion it's a way to make money while tricking you into starving yourself, all whilst avoiding "scary" words like fasting, extreme restriction drinksomesugarsoyoudon'tpassout, etc.

I'd like to hear other people's opinions/see some science on this stuff so I know the truth.

My opinion is that I have yet to see anything credible that points to any actual toxins that are:

    a) Not removed by the liver/kidneys naturally
    AND
    b) Is removed by drinking some blended up veggies, or a specific shake, or whatever the detox product is.

Will you lose weight? Yes, because you're creating a large energy deficit.
Is it by any means necessary? No.

I'd trust your instinct on this one but I applaud you for looking for anything credible. If you find anything please post it.
