How restful should the rest day be?

Morning all,

Just started the routine of weights three times a week combined with cardio. Currently on rest days I tend to use my FitBit to do around 15,000 steps which normally involves a walk of 3 to 5 miles. Yesterday was supposed to be a rest day but I spent 6 hours drilling / digging out concrete for some home improvement. Today I have more aches than normal and can feel the muscles that were impacted. What will this have done to me rest day and muscles after the last gym workout? Should I take an extra rest day or just go with the flow?

Cheers

Paul

Go with the flow. Pretty sure you'll be fine. You're more looking to get direct rest from the lifts The indirect effect of the home improvement work should have little impact.

As always, common sense rules. If you get to the gym and feel acute pain someplace, act accordingly

I agree with DavPul. You have to gauge it and play it by ear. I am 61 and the total volume of exercise I get can be an issue that I have to be concious of. If you are exessively fatigued. Give it another day. If you feel reasonably good, go for it.

Thanks for the advice. Going with the flow then as body aches but isn't painful, should have done some stretching after the home improvement would probably have helped. At least the calorie burn would have been higher for six hours then normal which I didn't include in MFP and my food diary was just under my calories for yesterday
