This is a copy of my recent blog-post, but I thought posting it here might be of use to someone who needs the motivation.
I'm not always that cheerful person I portray here on MFP - I'm a chronic pain patient, on one of the strongest pain medications on the market, which doesn't even take all the pain away. I've had several surgeries (about 30 since I was 19) because of the condition that causes this pain, and on top of all this, I deal with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a clinical depression (no frigging wonder, haha), a personality disorder in the schizophrenic spectrum, and Asperger's Syndrome (a condition in the autistic spectrum). My weight gain was caused by medication - I'm still on meds that make it harder to lose weight, and these meds have caused my metabolism to get out of whack. In other words, I'm a complete mess.
But I will not feel sorry for myself. I'm determined to stay positive, no matter what. Especially towards others. If I don't, I'd just end up back in my bed, unable to get up in the morning - unable to do anything. Some days are harder than others - but I refuse to back down and let all these disorders, diseases and other dis'es win. I'm stronger than that.
So what am I saying here? I'm saying we can all do it if we try. We can all find tools in our lives that can help us, no matter how bad we have it - for example, Asperger's helps me focus on losing weight (people with AS often "obsess" about certain things, and spend an incredible amount of time on these special interests). My refusal to let these problems win also means I walk almost every day, just to defy them. "In your face, b*tches!" :P
I'm not writing all this to get sympathy - I'm writing it to hopefully motivate you a bit. I'm not saying I have the most problems out of all of you, but I'm hoping that a few of you will say "heck, if she can do it, so can I!" - and you'd be right!
Because I believe in you.
Let's defy the odds and kick some butt!
Love,
-Kuzu
