From an article on msn.com about 10 ways to boost your metabolism
“There are unhealthy things that can boost your metabolism, like a really strong cup of coffee, or nicotine, but I would never say go have a cigarette!” says Michelle Streif, a personal trainer in Nebraska. Nor overdo it on caffeine, which also has undesirable side effects. Instead, go for green tea, says Lieberman, which is known to stimulate metabolism longer and more effectively than coffee.0 -
caffeine can increase your heart rate, and in moderation isnt bad for you, but I wouldnt imagine it would boost your metabolism enough to add it to your diet for that particular reason.0

WOW! Thank you! I forgot about the tea and I drink it almost every night ) Sad to say I am a smoker but only have about 5/day now vs. the whole 20/day I use to do! I drink coffee every morning but it ruins my appetite so it's hard to eat breakfast and then I feel all shaky/jittery and I didn't want to quit drinking it, lol. Thanks again!!!0

Yeah,
While Caffeine in any form is shown to increase heart rate (thus Metabolism) it should also be noted that as it is a diuretic it can make it more challenging to maintain proper hydration and electrolyte balance. Dehydrations causes a reduction in blood plasma and forced the heart to work harder. (and not in a good way). So while it's ok to drink coffee, I do every morning. I would not recommend it as a tool to burst your work out. While it has been shown to boost athletic performance by reducing perceived exertion (in other words you can go harder without feeling like your pushing to hard) and helps the body maintain glycogen levels which allows for longer and more intense efforts, it can be risky without proper hydration. So if you have coffee to boost your workout be sure to follow it up with some good hydration or keep your sodium levels a bit higher so help retain a bit of water and keep you electrolyte levels in balance. But then we get into using sodium to control hydration levels which should never be done without consulting a Doctor. So I guess I just threw a bunch of confusing stuff out their and didnt really answer your question. lol

if you absolutely need coffee in the morning, try it black. the bitterness may encourage you to drink less, and you can skip out on the calories from sugar/substitute and cream/creamer. if you can as previously mentioned, try different types of tea. green, white, black and red (roobios) teas are awesome! while it may not have as much caffeine as coffee, the benefits will far surmount those of coffee.
happy drinking!0
