Hey everyone,
Being a part time employee at McDonalds makes it even harder to stay committed to my diet. But through a little research and familiarity with the menu I have devised a way to eat there when I have to without cheating on my diet. Just thought I would share some suggestions with you all so that next time you're at McDonalds, you can make healthy choices too.
Things to order
1. Southwest Salad. Order it without chicken, and tell them to hold the glaze, this will save you tons of calories and fat. Order with either light italian or light balsamic dressing (both are heavy on the sodium, but hey its better than ordering a double quarter pounder) calories: 140

2. Caesar Salad. Again, order without chicken, and choose one of the light dressings
calories:90

3. Side salad. hardly any calories, order with light dressing. and it only costs a buck!
calories: 20

4. A grilled snack wrap with no sauce or cheese.
Calories: 210

5. better yet on the wraps, order it without chicken and cheese and add a tomato. yum. Not sure of the calorie count but trust me, there aren't a lot.

6. for a nice little treat order the apple dippers, even with the caramel sauce the total for both is only 100 calories!

7. drinks. Order a large cup of water, its free! Or if youre craving coffee, we have both splenda and equal.

hope these tips help!

Ah, but how's the sodium? I can find just about anything on Mcdonald's menu to fit into my daily plan, calorie-wise, but the sodium is usually off the charts!
  • Thanks for those tips! I'll have to try them.

Like I said, the salad dressings are loaded with sodium, but if your in a rush its better to order the salad then to order something else.

I like their Yogurt Parfait and the Apple Walnut Snack thing (I think they might call it a salad) Plus, they have milk, although I can't remember if it Low-Fat or not
  • Thanx for the info! I love their apple dippers and the yogurt parfait.

Good tips, my fav place to eat fast food is Wendy's. They have lots of good choices. I always get a sour cream and chive baked potato and a small chili. I dump the chili on the potato and use only about 1/2 the sour cream they give you. It's 430 calories if you eat about 3/4 the potato (I can never eat the whole thing), but for a day when I've had no snacks, it really really fills you up and is a lot less sodium than a burger.
