I am so frustrated with myself. The past year I had gotten down to the smallest I had been in years and was wearing a loose size 12 which I hadn't seen in over 13 years. I was exercising and eating decent. Not perfect but I was doing OK. I've finally found happiness in my emotional life but am struggling terribly with my weight again. I'm now the heaviest I've been in the past 3 years and have gone from my loose size 12 to a tight size 14. I was down to 162 but now I'm back up to 180! I've lost my motivation somewhere and can't seem to get back on track. I think I can get back on track with the exercising but I just can't get a handle on my eating. Any suggestions on where to start? How should I start off tomorrow morning? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For me, it came down to importance. Why did I want to lose the weight, eat better, get fitter? It isn't like it is easy; I think it takes a
Lot of effort to do the right thing and make the right choices day after day. For a long time, it just wasn't high on that list for me. Then I turned 50 and, for health insurance reasons, had to get a cholesterol check which shows normal total levels, but high LDL levels. When my doctor mentioned "medication", that really got my attention. I didn't want to have to go on any medication. At least not before I could try anything and everything I could to prevent it. Plus, i wanted to show my kids a healthier way. Fast forward 5 months later and I've managed to shave 30 points off that LDL and lose 32 pounds as well. Be honest with yourself -why do you want to lose the weight? If it is just cosmetic, maybe the importance isn't enough to summon up the strength to commit to a healthier lifestyle yet. Maybe starting by really examining why you want to lose the weight is a way to start.
  • You've succeeded before, you KNOW what you need to do.

If it's a matter of structure, maybe start off following a specific diet plan (like South Beach or The Zone, or whatever else is out there).

It's hard to give advice on what exactly you should do, because different things work for different people. I've gone through MANY different phases of eating throughout my weight loss, all which served their purpose at that particular time.

Try not to think about long term, think about just the current day, the current meal. It will all build up and soon you will feel like you have it under control again!

Thank you both!! It is just a day at a time thing and it DOES need to be for the right reasons. I turned 40 last year and know that I want to be healthier in the long term. I think I tend to feel overwhelmed at where I want to be and don't focus on the right now. It does come down to making the right choices each moment and staying focused. I think I just needed to be reminded and thank you both for that reminder. I'll start slow tomorrow and take it day by day. Thanks so much!
