shoes causing knee pain??

Hi there
I recently got a new pair of shoes...for the first time, I went to a running store and had them help me select shoes. I bought a pair of asics (Asics GT-2160)...I started running in them a few weeks ago, and for the first time ever, i started experiencing knee pain. Before the Asics, I had only run in New Balance shoes that I purchased at the New Balance Store. The salesperson who helped me select the Asics said that the New Balance shoes were providing me with too much stability, causing me to pronate. The Asics felt really great in the store, and feel fine when I run, I'm just experiencing the pain after runs.
I guess my question is, is it possible that these shoes are causing my knee pain? I know this probably sounds dumb, but I've never had this problem before. Common sense is telling me that it's the shoes. I ran 5 miles yesterday and all night my knee was in so much pain, it hurt to move my leg. Today the pain is lessening (sore, but some shooting pain), but I know if i run in these shoes again, it's going to start back up. I'm not sure what to do at this point...I'm thinking that I should get new shoes. I hate having to spend more money on shoes, but I'd rather have knees that don't hurt! And then I don't know if I should just go back to New Balance and get shoes that never hurt my knees, but that were causing me to pronate more. Or should I go to a different running store? Or the same place I bought the Asics? If the pain continues, I'm also thinking of going to the doctor or a physical therapist that I see for clinical massages.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am by no means a fast runner...I usually average 5 min miles. I run maybe 2-3 times a week...maybe 10-12 miles a week on a good week. And I run on both treadmill and outside.
Thanks!

The answer is definitely maybe. It's certainly possible that new shoes are causing your issue, while I always recommend people go to a running shop and get fitted, the people that work in them are sadly not fallible. It's also possible that' you've just developed runner's knee at a suspicious time. I'd take a week off to get the knee back in a happy place, then do a week in your old shoes and a week in your new ones and see if the pain starts to com back either way.0
