Hikers - favorite all-weather boots?

Options
I've got a great pair of Merrill trail shoes that I use for "every day" treking around the local hills, that I absolutely adore for any dry location. Most comfortable walking shoes I have ever owned.

I also have a pair of Merrill boots that I waterproofed that have been okay -- they got me around all but the worst ice in Yosemite last winter... But they just don't ft my feet perfectly, and while they're okay for the first couple of miles, eventually my feet start to hurt, even with my orthotic inserts. So I'm looking at getting a new pair of boots for fall/winter walking. I want to be equally comfortable whether it's warm, cold, wet, dry, firm and not-so-firm footing...

What are your preferences?

I just bought a Salomon XA Comp 7 and they are great. no shoelaces. Just a string you pull and you are set!

I have a pair of Timberland boots I'd had for about 10 years. I had them resoled three times, and I love them. They are great for all kinds of hiking (cool and warm weather).
