Yes, it will automatically adjust to your new calorie needs when you lose a certain amount of weight.

However! As you lose weight and become more fit, depending on your workouts, you may find that you actually need MORE calories rather than less. This was the case for me - lost some weight with MFP settings, but eventually stalled and used this thread to recalculate my goals and target calories, and set it all manually on MFP: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Great info there - check it out.

Yes, but I doubt they'll change at the proper rate.

I calculate my RMR and TDEE on my own and adjust manually.
  • Well, yes and no. MFP offers you the option to reevaluate your goals based on weight loss, and you have to tell it Yes. Then you have to go into your Goals and actually update them. Then your calorie count will change; however, you should also know that once it changes it does so for the whole time you have been here. This means if I am on a 1800 calorie plan and lose weight and the system drops me to a 1500 calorie plan, anyone looking at my diary in the past will think that I exceeded my daily count everyday that I went over the 1500 count, even though that is not the case. When it changes it changes from the beginning.

I do this too. MFP thinks I only need 1200 calories, but I am still losing 2 pounds a week and eating 1800. The last time that my BMR went down by about 50, I chose to increase my exercise instead of eating less, so I am still eating net 1800 and just leave about 50 exercise calories.
