hey all, so far iv been doing ok lost 5lbs the first week and this week 2lbs, which got me looking at what was different bout my eating habits between the two weeks?
iv always eaten alot of carbs but iv just realised how much! the first week i was very concious of what i was eating and tried to vary my choices alot. 2nd week im creeping back into old habits noodles, potatoes, pasta - i think i had chicken noodle soup 4 times!
my main problem is that i have a limited range of fruit and veg i will eat, and i only eat chicken and fish so other than pasta of different shapes n sizes im finding if i cut that out what am i left with?
i know that im going to get bored real quick if i dont think of something, so has anyone got any ideas? or has the same problem with fussy eating?

iv been under my calories each day but iv heard that carbs make u retain water and although im happy that iv still lost i want to give myself the best start possible to keep me motivated. dont worry i know that its only in the beginning you get a boost- im prepared for steady slow weight loss lol

but id be grateful for any suggestions x

Good job on 7# in 2 weeks. You should aim for 0.5 - 2# per week for maintainable, steady weight loss. Don't think that every week is going to be a 5# weight loss & don't get discouraged. A loss is a loss.

What about sweet potatoes or brown rice? I had read an article a while back that red skinned potatoes have the least amount of starch out of the different kinds of white potatoes available. Maybe you could at least start there. Try whole wheat pasta, too. If all you're doing is putting sauce or other seasonings over top, you really won't notice a difference in taste from white pasta.

If you're hooked on chicken noodle soup, try making it yourself at home. Canned soups taste pretty awful in comparison and are loaded with sodium and other junk that doesn't need to be in your diet. Home cooked is always better - for everything - not just soups.

What is it about other fruits & veggies that you won't eat them? Have you tried to eat something new recently? Our tastes change as we get older, and so while you may have avoided foods that you didn't like as a kid, you might be surprised to know they're now your favorite food. For example, when I was a kid, I wouldn't go near olives, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Now, I love them. Steamed broccoli is a staple in most of my meals. Make it a challenge/goal to try a new food once or twice a week. There's so much out there, you shouldn't limit yourself.

Have you tried Spaghetti Squash? It is super simple to cook (trust me, if it wasn't I couldn't cook it!) It tastes about the same as regular pasta spaghetti and it is an extra vegetable, because you can use sauce on it just like you would pasta.

Have you done whole wheat pasta or brown rice? It is better for you than the white stuff.

Just try being open minded and try a new veggie or fruit once a week or so. I'm sure you will find fun things to try.

I was very much a carb eater before - I loved carbs of all kinds (pasta, bread, etc.) and did not like eating many fruits or veggies. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but you're going to have to make yourself just do it. Experiment with different veggies - I've tried some new veggies that I LOVE (spaghetti squash, which is a great substitute for pasta) and I like fruit more now, as well. I add spinach to my smoothies and scambled eggs - it's tastier than just eating the spinach by itself. Eating veggies doesn't have to mean eating salads all the time, though I've learned to enjoy salads more too. Mix stuff up and try different combinations. I'll mix beans and meat in with salad, and I found a good recipe for some chicken cous-cous salad (not too much cous-cous). The more I eat veggies, the more I find I WANT to eat them.

Don't deprive yourself - allow yourself some pasta or other favorite carbs a few times a week (or even once a day), but try to stay away from sodium-high soups and try to stick to whole-grain carbs like oatmeal or whole-grain breads.

Hello from another picky eater! I also only eat chicken (but no fish, pork, red meat....) so getting protein can be tough. I am currently on a ratio of 50% protein/30% carbs/20% fat (just for 30 days, but my normal range is still somewhere around 40/40/20. ANyway, I eat pretty much some variation of the same things every day which includes: eggbeaters, veggie hot dogs, Boar's Head low sodium chicken deli meat, veggie cheese slices, Arnold sandwich thins, chicken breast or Perdue turkey burger, Birdseye Steamfresh veggies, light cheese sticks, Greek yogurt, english muffins, almond butter, oatmeal w/protein powder mixed in....& my husband finds if he's having trouble meeting his veggie requirements, he will have a glass of low sodium V8 juice.

Feel free to send me a message if you have more questions or specific questions. I've been a super picky eater my whole life & it can be hard to get in all the vitamins, etc. Good luck!

Hi! I know how you feel I LOVE CARBS! But, my nutritionist told me eating one piece of white bread turns into 4 tablespoons of sugar once is digested YIKEESSS right?? I never would have thought. Also, make smaller portions of the carbs. Make sure you buy wheat pastas and wheat or whole grain breads with at least 2g fiber and 2g protein in each serving or its going to burn into sugar in your system. The more fiber and protein the better. Regular pasta and breads are horrible for you so stick to the grains. If you have never had wheat pastas.. they taste almost excatly the same as regular. I actually perfer the wheat pasta better.

Here are some big tips my specialist gave me:
Use a small plate for your meals that way you will feel like your eating more.
Make sure at breakfast 50% of your plate is grains and 50% dairy such as 2 slice of wheat toast and 2 scrambled eggs.
Lunch and Dinner have your plate be 50% veggies and 25% protein and 25% grains such as a salad a 3 oz piece of salmon and a breadstick.

Switch your meals up, if youre a picky fruit and veggie eater mix it up. Try different ways of eating the veggies either salad, or cook some with pam in a frying pan or with lite ranch dressing for dip...you wont get bored! Just let your mind wander and before you know it you will have tons of different meal ideas!

Dont cut out carbs all together, but dont make them your main food group during each meal, I think that may be why you are slowing down.

However, the first week of weight loss is usually water weight in general with a few fat lbs. You may have lost 3 lbs of water weight with your additional 2 lbs last week of fat weight. 2lbs a week is still very good!

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything!

If you really need a pasta fix and don't want to worry about going over in carbs, Dreamfields pasta is a great brand to use since it only has 5 net carbs per serving.

Also, I have to agree with an earlier post -- our tastes do change as we get older. Something you thought was gross back when you were growing up may taste totally awesome to you now. Preperation makes a big difference in flavor as well. Try to go for fresh and/or frozen veggies and don't overcook them too much. Growing up we ate a lot of canned veggies (yuck) and is a main reason why I couldn't stand green beans, peas, etc. However, I find that buying fresh/frozen and cooking them properly I don't mind them as much and slowing incoroprated more of them into my diet.

Keep up the good work! :)

hiya, thanks for all the great comments and suggestions. i went out and bought a mixed bag of veg which had broccoli, carrots, mange tou (dont know how to spell it lol but they are flat green things haha)and baby sweetcorn. found that i quite liked the broccoli, not so keen on the rest, part from the carrots but that and green beans are the only veg i would eat anyway! i think i just never had it cooked properly as a child - my mum likes things well cooked!
luckily im a good cook (make my own soup btw i agree the canned stuff is nasty:sick: ) so tomorrow im gona try n see what i can add to brown rice with my dinner n see how that goes with chicken and maybe even some broccoli woohoo

lol my mum couldnt believe it when she saw me choosing to eat veg

    thanks again x

btw feel freeto add me as a friend n share tips if u like
