what diet with P90x?

My fiance and I have committed to doing two rounds of P90X to try and tone up and drop some weight. He has about 15lbs to lose and I have between 30-40. We both set our MFP for weight loss at 1lb per week. My question is, should we stick with that knowing we are increasing our protein intake to see results?

Or, should we follow the P90x plan? The calories seemed really high to me.

I wear a HRM so I can accurately track calories burned. Any advice from P90X alums would be great.

I would suggest going into it with a fairly low fat target and a high protein target then adjust as necessary. If you get into it and find yourself gassing out during the workout or getting hypoglycemic then you'll know you need to adjust.

I am currently doing a workout which I do at a level similar to the P90x (body weight calisthenics to failure with short rests between sets) stuff and I eat just below maintenance level, 2650 cal/day, and I'm going about 60g fat, 265 carbs, and 265 protein (40%, 40%, 20%). I have plenty or energy to finish up and am cutting fat at a pretty good clip. Eating every three hours also helps keep things going and has jump started my weight loss after a month or two of plateau.

Trial and error would be my best suggestion but you can never really go wrong with high levels of lean protein when trying to gain strength and fuel metabolism.

Here's a little blurb of info to give you a starting point maybe. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/macronutrients_calculator.htm

I'm on Day 65 of P90x. I decided to commit to the program fully, and I have been following the fat-burning program so far. My goals are 1,800 calories total, 50% from protein. I have found the protein number hard to hit, but I still try to get over 125g of protein.

I'm 6'2", and I started the program at 207lbs and ~22% body fat; I'm down to 192 at 19% bodyfat. My goal weight isn't that important, as I am trying to get rid of the last bit of belly flab, which will be somewhere in the low teens on body fat, so probably about 175 to 180 lbs.

The 1,800 total (against my BMR of around 2,300) leaves me at between 1,000 and 1,400 net calories on any given day (some days I'll do doubles), which is generally counter to standard theory here. I do not think MFP theory is wrong, but rather I elected to follow the P90x program as best as I could.
