Upset tummies / Food allergies

I've noted as of late I seem to be having food allergies that I don't know about until they are upon "exit status".....
Seriously, my stomach "issues" are randomly every four days or so.
Not to be gross or anything, but have any of you pinpointed any foods that make your intestines go bonkers? Any light any of you can shed on the topic would be helpful to point me in the right direction;
I'm about to go bonkers trying to figure it out. I'm keeping a diary but nothing is standing out like a sore thumb!

It's going to have to be something you figure out for yourself, everyone will react to different foods differently. Sorry!

For me it's gluten, most of dairy and honey. You can't figure out it before eliminating. But it's hard at the beginnign to eliminate0

I think artificial sweetners are the worst but even when I avoid them I still suffer. I think it may also be partly due to stress. What have you considered?0

I can't tolerate red meat any longer. Beef or pork in small volumes cause an excess of gas and stomach rumbling. A large portion causes me to be flat out ill, and I spend a good portion of my evening on the porcelain throne praying for a quick death.

I can tell you that my tummy doesn't like more than a cup of raw vegetables (chopped) at a meal. (same with fruit). Volume of food matters to my tummy. Not drinking water is horrible to me. I have to treat me better!
Stress matters as well to me.
3 meals and one morning snack are my ideal days.0 -
wheat/egg/dairy, citrus fruits, seeded fruits, some veg all make my tummy go mad. might be worth going to your gp and getting tested for intollerances and IBS0

For me, it's dairy.
I tried protein shakes to help increase my calcium and protein, but all it does is make me feel sick. More than half a cup of milk seems to make things *really* bad. So I to try to stagger out the cheese and dairy products. Probably won't make a massive difference in the long run, but oh wells.
Funny that some dairy products don't affect me as much as others.0 -
I was a food intolerance practitioner for quite a few years and it is very hard to self diagnose without cutting everything out and starting from scratch ,It can take up to 48 hours after eating something before it decides to upset you so basically you could eat something today and be fine then tomorrow or the day after you may eat something else and get a reaction and straight away you think that whatever you have just had has upset you ,the best thing to do is if you have an idea what it might be then cut it out of your diet for a few weeks and see how you go ,the problem is that there are so many hidden ingredients in different foods that this can make it a long elimination process0

check with family members- food allergies can be hereditary....then try doing without one thing at a time for couple weeks...ie... no bread or crackers or pastas etc for two weeks- log how you feel then do the same for dairy etc til you find out the culprit. I know when I drink glass of milk without mixing it with something else my stomach will knot up which hurts then it just works its way down so i dont use much.....anything with yeast, msg, bothers me as well which I think might be linked with gluten so I am trying to work myself up to knocking off that for a couple weeks but its tough when your a bready and your fiancee is not much help lol good luck and hope you feel better:)0

There are two things you can get tested for: allergy and intolerances to food. Your gp can do a blood test of allergies. Spend a week writing down what you eat and how you feel afterwards (anything from tummy issues, headaches, having a hard time sleeping...), take that in to your gp and they can determine which should be tested. Also you can go to a dietician that does a blood test for intolerances. You will need to keep a food log too. The dietician usually will then spend time with you helping you plan meals that don't contain your bad "red" category foods and help you reintegrate the medium bad "yellow" foods after a few weeks of completely eating all good "green" foods.
I was tested for food allergies 6 years ago after I was fed up with spending every morning in the little room, being bloated, having headaches and gaining weight. It came back with wheat and rice that I'm allergic to. I lost 40 pounds in 6 months just by cutting out wheat and rice...now I don't say do this- it is not fun eating this way! I am now interested in getting the intolerance test done as there are things that still bug my tummy.0 -
One thing I was able to pinpoint for myself was produce from fast food restaurants. (Salads, burger toppings,etc.) Something in the preservative/wash they use causes my stomach great upset. Unfortunately, it could be something that random. But, I would go to an allergist. I've wasted years feeling sick. I just found out I'm allergic to at least four major foods. No wonder I never feel good! Hope you find your answer and feel better soon.0

Coconut gives me an incredibly painful migraine and makes me vomit. Every time, without fail. Eggs make my stomach ache, and anything too greasy causes that same problem. On days that it occurs notice what you ate and the time frame it took to feel ill. You'll begin to feel affects just an hour or so after eating. I have other issues with very sugary things such as sodas. Can't even look at Coke without getting sick0 -
K... well I don't do fake sugar - I'm all about organic sugar so it can't be that, and I don't do much of that anyway....
I do organic / GMO free milk / GMO free soy when I do "go there"... that's about as good as you can get...
I'm steering away from cheese as I'm doing super on the calorie/fat/carb/cholestrol count thing on here. Seems to help.
Stress? I have plenty of that. Check!
Never thought beef/pork could upset my stomach but it did last night. Hmm. Interesting. Thx, 195orbust!
My stomach loves veggies and some citrus fruits seem to give me an issue.
Protein shakes don't cause a problem, in fact, I lose weight when I incorporate them into my program!
Gluten intolerance is on one side of my fam.... which is awesome (<-- sarcasm) since it's so hidden in things!
I've been logging everything... I AM starting to see patterns... especially when I don't drink 8 glasses of water. Hmm!
One thing I have determined is I am deathly allergic to peanut OIL. Not peanuts, not peanut butter, but the OIL....!
Odd eh?
Oh, and "BehindBlueEyes"... coconut does the SAME thing to me... oy vey! Not fun, is it?

Artificial sweeteners for me. Even brushing my teeth with a toothpaste that has sorbitol in it causes me major tummy issues.
It's a real pain because so many food manufacturers are starting to use them even in non diet products.0 -
For us it is peppers and corn. It took years to figure it out so I wish you good luck in your quest. An elimination diet and very careful monitoring of your symptoms is in order. It would also be a good idea to see your doctor to rule out any other issues.0

It varies. I have food sensitivities, where my stomach feels super bloated and hurts. For a while I thought I had it narrowed down to corn (which is in a LOT of things!). I don't have problems when I eat super clean and natural foods. Also, drinking a lot of tea does it to me.
Keep track of what you are eating and how you feel each day and you might see a trend. You should be able to eliminate the foods that don't give you a reaction and at least narrow it down.0 -

for ONE YEAR i had insane stomach problems. bloating, pain, and bathroom visits A LOT!!!!....
i ate very healthy and couldnt figure it out. i chewed a LOT of gum like a pack a day (for a couple years) and figured that was it. i cut that out and it helped but didnt fix it completely.
i recently (2 months) went paleo. cut out ALL sweeteners. NO STOMACH ISSUES!! i seriously think i damaged my stomach it is SO SENSITIVE now.... even yesterday i made an instant coffee thats powder low cal but sweetened with aspartame and my stomach was stupid all day because of the one cup...
cut the sweeteners for a week and see if it helps0
