Losing the head hunger.

I've changed my lifestyle. I've lost the weight. It wasn't easy, but I've come to realize it is even harder to change the way I think. I still think about food all the time, it's still my favorite thing in the world to do. I stay within my calories and choose healthy foods, but I eat for pleasure not hunger. I am still always planning and anticipating the next meal and I still beat up on myself for it. Is this just who I am? Anyone else struggle with fixing the inside.

Congrats on your weight loss.
Here is my unprofessional opinion... your enjoyment of food isn't a problem. Lots of people eat for pleasure or identify food as a hobby or pass time and are still healthy. It's the, as you say "beat up on myself for it" part thats the problem. Rest assured that if you are physically healthy and your food focus doesn't affect your daily life (work, relationships, finances, health, etc) in a negative way then perhaps you just really enjoy food and you need to remind yourself of that.
However, if you are finding that your food focus is affecting you in a negative way, then it might be time to take a closer look at things.

I agree with Dhemeyer, your enjoyment and even planning of food is not a problem. Planning is actually a sign of success in my opinion because when you don't plan, you can end up going overboard and for those of us who enjoy our food, that usually leads to weight gain. Nothing at all wrong with being a foodie - embrace it and enjoy it! You've obviously made the right changes with portion sizes and healthier choices in order to make your food enjoyment work with your weight loss.
Is this coming from comparing yourself to others who say food should just be fuel? As a fellow foodie, I actually feel bad for these folks and those who feel they have to deprive themselves to lose weight and/or be healthy. You should be proud of the changes you've made and your progress!0 -
Thanks guys. I think I need to stop being so hard on myself and be enjoy being healthy. There are worse problems I could have!0
