major workout pain!

This past Saturday I took a brand new fitness class called Body Works. It basically was 60 minutes of repeated reps with weights targeting major muscle groups. Now I consider myself a fairly fit person. I have trained for 2 half marathons and I coach for Girls on the Run. I regularly do Turbo Jams for cardio and I often supplement with Turbo Sculpt for weights and toning or Ripped in 30. So I thought I could handle this class. I used the smallest weights the class offered (5lbs) and tired easily but with short breaks or alternating reps for things like arms, I was able to complete the class. The bad news is that today (Tuesday) FOUR days later, I am still SO SORE that I can barely move. I thought Jillian was tough...but this class is killing me. The worst are my inner thighs and the back of my arm, triceps, right above my elbow. I am so sore I can't flex my arm or even put pressure on those muscles!

Is there something I can do to ease the pain, or something I can do when I take the class again? I would love smaller weights, but the class doesn't have any and the smallest I own are also 5lbs. I need advice...it hurts so bad...I feel like such a wimp!

hmmm, I took some motrin...maybe its not doing the trick. I thought maybe pills were a wussy way out or that I should do something else besides just pain killers. Thankls for the advice though!

It's definitely not wussing out, it's making it manageable. Also, I LOVE the pain, because when you stop and think, you're in pain because you clearly murdered your work out !!! That's a great kind of pain to be in.

I agree...my body definitely knows it worked harder than ever with this class! Hopefully after a few more times it will get a smidge less painful and make a difference in my strength!

the pain will definitely lessen as your body gets more and more used to using those particular muscles. Just work through it, as hard as that is/sounds. It has actually helped me. When my legs are dying, I keep up with my squats.

    bump...more replies please!
  • Yeah take it again, your probably working different muscles in different ways, hence the reason for the pain
