Bored today... So I "analyzed" my diet so far...

Have been kinda curious about the "state of my union" with this weight-loss strategy. I've felt like the weight-loss has been extremely slow in the recent months, and I wanted a way to compare it to my initial progress when I started, which seemed faster.
Thus, a GRAPH... (I'm a bit of an excel junky, I'll admit...)
I found with much interest that in fact my weight-loss averages have been incredibly consistant over the past 4 months, and in general are much better than my weight loss was over the first 2 months.
I also finally learned how long it's taken me (on average) to lose one pound - 5.6 days. It's really surprising information when you go a week and lose 2-3 pounds and go "Wow - I'm going to be skinny in just a few more weeks!" and then a few weeks later, are thinking, "WTF?!?!"
If anything, I feel that this validates my "strategy" that I've taken all along. No it hasn't been as fast as I'd want it to go, yes it's going to take me longer to hit my goal than I had hoped (wanted to lose the entire 70 pounds before baby comes in January). But most importantly I've been consistent, and I've done it all without resorting to crazy methods or expensive diets/gyms/doctors...
If you'd like information on the formulas used to figure this stuff out, let me know.
If there are any legitimate fitness experts out there who'd like to weigh-in on aspects of this data that I might not realize myself, feel free.

I have done the same thing as you, just not in excel. I was excited because I was consistently losing .4 of a lb a day for a few weeks. Was trying to project where I might be by halloween, x-mas etc....
THEN I HIT A REALLY STUPID PLATEAU!!
And now my weight loss is not budging despite staying on track...
sigh0 -
Well and that's kinda the point here - looking at the big picture instead of just what's in recent memory.
And in case SOMEONE reads this (who I suspect WILL read this,) I forecasted out from this point and learned that I SHOULD hit 199 on 12/7/2012. You've been warned...

Oh I gottcha - to bad that's gonna be too late! :bigsmile:0

It's not really a plateau you are on per se. You figured out exactly what you need to take in calorie wise per day to maintain your current weight. This includes all of your working out. Whatever it is that you are NET is what you need to maintain where you are at right now.0 -

I'm preparing to teach my class in statistics and I just love the two curves.
Good luck!0 -

I use OpenOffice at home, but um, yeah. Love spreadsheets! :flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks for the replies. The geek in me enjoyed figuring out how to use the "=forecast" function in Excel...0

The average weight loss per day, is that a cumulative average or a simple moving average or what? If it is a simple moving average, I would agree with the prior comments and say you are honed in on your calorie intake/output.
Good Job!0 -
The engineer in me loves geeky spreadsheets. Big part of why I weigh my self often (more data!) and plug it all into excel. Unfortunately right now it just looks like a Jackson Pollock painting with no foreseeable trend over the last 8 weeks. Some day though hopefully I will have a nice drooping trendline like yourself...some day...0

Good Job!
There are two averages - the second-to-last column on the right is the average loss-per-day during the period since the last measurement. The last column is a sum of total weight loss divided by total duration up to each measurement. For the last few measurements (which weren't consistent durations apart if you look at the first column) - you can see that the period averages and total average stayed pretty close to each other - which to me is a good sign.0 -
So ummm....could you make that public? I would love to do that but I don't have a single clue how!0

Yep - I'm an Excel junkie too!most importantly I've been consistent, and I've done it all without resorting to crazy methods or expensive diets/gyms/doctors...
You're right on target with losing in a healthy way. In my mind, consistency and sustainability are the keys. Congrats!0
