Confused on TDEE/BMR-how many calories do I eat?

Hello~
I'm starting my 3rd week of counting my calories using MFP goals. Based on my height, weight age, marking myself as sedentary (desk job) it has me at 1200 calories per day. I have been exercising by running/walking on the treadmill with couch 25k program and have been eating around 1500-1600 calories and have not lost a single pound. I'm confused on whether I am not eating enough. I am 39 years old, a woman, 165 lbs and 5'4. I want to lose 20 lbs. How many calories am I to be eating if I DON'T exercise and then how to I find out how many calories to eat if I DO exercise? Thanks in advance.

When you got the 1200 what was the loss rate you used ? Try 0.5 lbs/week.

MFP expects you to log your exercise and increases the food goal accordingly.

With only 20 pounds to lose you probably should set your goal to .5 pound a week or so.

Or if you'd rather take your sedentary TDEE and subtract 20% (just don't go way under you BMR but statistically that shouldn't happen). With those stats I'd guess you BMR is well over 1200 so that kind of diet won't be sustainable. fi you wan tto track calories burned and eat tehm back then I suggest a heart rate monitor I bought Polar FT4 for around $60 and it has been a great help. The estimates on calories burned you get from MFP can be WAY off.
