I've been offered a job in Australia, and a job in Ireland.
I've never left Ontario, and I hear great things about both, and bad things about both.

In Ireland -- I would be in Kells Ireland about an hour from Dublin.
In Australia-- I would be in Barossa Valley Australia, about 20 minutes to Adelaide.

SO anyone that can tell me a bit about the place - weather, prices of things (like movies, attractions, clothes, toiletries, food)
Anything about jobs (I would be getting a second part time job at a bar hopefully)
The bugs, I hear are bad in Australia, and I hear it's cold and rainy all the time in Ireland.

Any information anyone has is helpful .. what's it going to be like for a 24 year old girl like me out there?
Does anyone know how far Barossa is from the beach? haha :)

i am from Ireland originally but now live in England near Oxford...

Ireland is a beautiful place. i was born in Southern Ireland (Eire) but grew up in Northern Ireland.

Let me paint a 2 pictures for you....

    1. Think white washed houses, green fields, rolling countryside, great beer, lovely friendly salt of the earth people and the irish culture and music...

    2. Think great nightlife.... amazing shopping, georgeous people, good food, great music scene, laid back culture, friendly people, amazing beaches, picturesque...

    So what are the downsides....

    WEATHER....

Yes of course if can be rainy and cold and wet but wrap up warm and get a good coat. Walks on cold misty mornings in the beautiful countryside, horseriding in the hills and mountains, long walks on the clean beautiful beaches...But then when it is warm it is gorgeous...

Don't know a lot about Australia but Ireland is amazing and yes a little bias but i have taken a lot of my friends there over the years and they have all had an amazing time and say what a fab place it is and the people are the friendliest they have ever met...

Isn't a hard choice for me.... but hopefully this has given you some food for thouhgt.....

Like anywhere it depends where you go.... whereabouts is the job going to be and i might be able to tell you a little more...

I would be in Kells, which is about an hour or so away from Dublin! I would be an au pair (nanny) I am really worried about the weather, does it actually get hot enough to walk around in a t-shirt and shorts?

Not a bad part of the world and Dublin Bay is lovely and you have Galway which is the best place ever just a 1.5hr drive away due west of Dublin...

Kells will be pretty quiet itself but Dublin is nice but a bit too commercialised for me but good bars, resturants and nightlife and great shopping...

i reckon between June and early September you would get at least 3/4 weeks of good weater. usually temperatures of around 22-25 degrees centigrade... so shorts and T shirts for us but depends on how hot you are used too. it will take time to get used to it....

'think white wash houses' --- hmmm you will be in Kells not Kerry!!

I live in Dublin and I know kells - its a small town. But your only an hour from the city and there is a bus service. Temperatures reach about 20 C in summer (max of 25C). but usually onlt for a few days here and there.

There is a great music scene, wouldn't say amazing shopping as it is expensive in comparison to the UK, good food

''amazing beaches'' - they are not amazing when you look at australias beaches, trust me i've been to east coast Australia!!

I'm not trying to put you off but dont epect everything in the previous post because its an oil painting. If you get some time to travel around Ireland you will see some beautiful beaches and whitewash cottages but they are not as common as the postcards would lead you to believe.

    as for prices

    cinema - €11
    glas of wine - €5

As for the second job!! well lets just say if you have one job you are lucky! there is a hugh recession here with massive umemployment. hundreds of people apply for the smallest of part-time jobs.

    Good lick with you choice!

Expensive now with the Euro and the way it is i agree but some good shops in the Dub all the same...
Agree on the beaches but in comparison to what i am now subjected to in England they are nice and i do prefer the beaches in the North around the North Antrim coast compared to the South...

The other thing i would add is do your reasearch... plenty of pics and info on the Internet and agree with Ash, it is worth travelling around if you can....
