Need help re-starting! :-/

I was doing so great until summer hit. I was sick majority of the summer with what we thought was a constant sinus infection. They were wrong - I had to get my wisdom teeth out (at age 36, by the way). Anyway, I got them out, and quit smoking on the same day (July 5th). Since then, I have gained 10 pounds....no more, have been holding that / fluctuating a couple pounds both ways. I'm happy I quit smoking. I'm happy it was only 10. But it's still 10, and I can tell. i'm getting further out of shape. I have been walking between 2-4 miles almost daily. Then after the kids go to bed for school....it gets bad. I snack. I'm a snacker. I need HEALTHY ideas for snacking. I do veggies & fruits, but I like my salty snacks. I don't do much for chips at all, but low salt wheat thins are something I just lose track of how much i'm eating. I'm not making excuses. I'm not saying it's because I quit smoking, but I'm saying, I need help. I can't stand myself right now...I cry most of the time when I see myself. Help?

quitting smoking is harder than losing weight. Trust me I have tried both. You were only able to quit because you decided that you have had enough. then exercised the will power to now do it again. Everything is ok in moderation. separate a portion eat only that be use your will power to not go back. You are a strong and powerful person, you have already proved that. YOU CAN DO IT

I totally agree ^^. Also, for the late snacking issue, I just go in and brush my teeth. For some reason, I don't want to snack with clean teeth.

When eating the wheat thins, count out the # per serving. put the box back in the cabinet, and eat only that many. I think a serving is like 14-16 crackers. To make it seem like more, break them into smaller pieces or eat some fruit/veggies with it. I know if I eat right out of the box, it is empty before I know it. Hope this helps.
  • i know where you are... and be happy that it was only 10, you're lucky... my 10 turned to 20 and then 50 and then 100... yes, 100. i'm back on track now and down 26. (thank god!!!)

here are some of my favourite salty-ish snacky foods for you....

1/4 of a spaghetti squash with some parmasan cheese on top

zucchini or carrott "fries" with homemade ranch dressing (message me for recipe)

    cottage cheese

    veggies and hummus

just keep doing what you're doing because even a 10lbs weight gain is just 10 lbs... its not the end of the world and as long as your dedicated and trying hard the results will come <3

If you like salty snacks, you should look into Special K Popcorn Chips or other Special K chips. They're good and you can have 28 of them for less than 200 calories.

We share the same stop date, although I'm six years in the game as of 7/5/2006 - It's hard, no one should tell you it isn't. But you have to remember you are going to be a super fabulous mom to your kids. Count out your portions, put the box away and eat only that portion. It's what I had to do and what I STILL have to do. I wish I had gained only 10 - I gained a significant amount more than that and it's taken me 6 long years to get serious about my health and weight. You are ahead of the game by doing it now. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Just remember, one day, one moment, one breath at a time. Rock it out sister!!!

As for snacks that are salty, have you tried things like veggie straws (Whole Foods sells them and I believe organic), they give you the crunch and salt without all the other bad stuff from chips and crackers. What about a handful of nuts, or even some peanut butter? I'm a vegetarian so salty foods are rare for me to begin with, but if you need support on the staying quit, lemme know, I'll root for you!!!

Thank you....EVERYONE!!! All your positive words seriously just brought tears to my eyes... But in a good way! Thank you all for the encouragement. I just need to keep telling myself that I can do it...I know what I need to do, but I just need to do it....I think the biggest thing I need to get back to is pre-making all the healthy snacks for my night time snacking. I was making individual little containers to grab...with carrots, celery, grapes, etc.....

Thank you again!!!! I just wanted this to be easier than it's supposed to be and was getting really discouraged ;-)

I sooooo understand! I quit smoking when I got pregnant with my son - that's also when I gained all this weight! I have 19 left until my goal weight but I am looking forward to being friends and doing this together! Great for you for quitting smoking! Hardest. Thing. I've. Ever. Done.
