Exercising with a knee injury?

I just started on the site about a week ago because I recently tweaked my knee at roller derby practice and am concerned about gaining weight while it recovers. I had started losing weight just from practices but that stopped after about 15 lbs. I need to lose more weight not only so I can skate faster and keep up during bouts but diabetes runs in the family and I really need to get my BMI in check. Does anyone have suggestions for exercises that won't irritate my knee injury?
