What is the difference between ON 100% Casein Protein and their Gold Standard 100% Whey? It says that the Casein protein takes longer to be digested and break down, but what does that really mean? What are the benefits/negatives about that?
Thanks guys!

Casein (80%) and Whey(20% roughly) make up the proteins from milk. Whey is actually recovered as a byproduct of other foods in the dairy industry which is why it's cheaper than casein even though it constitutes less of the protein in the raw milk.
going off memory here, so I'm sure somebody will sacrastically correct me for being wrong, but whey's amino acids end up available in like 2 hours after ingestion, whereas it's like 6 for casein. This means amino acids either flood the bloodstream in whey's case or are released more slowly in casein's.
This makes whey a good protein to take before and after workouts when the window for recovery and rebuilding using amino acids is high. Whereas casein's slow release is desired just before bedtime to ensure your body has a steady release of amino acids while you sleep. That is the bro-science dogma of whey/casein.
In reality, meats and plant proteins can take as long or longer than casein to digest and your body really doesn't care as much as the suppliment companies would make you think.
Studies have basically shown that whey is a good anabolic protein and casein is anti-catabolic.0 -
Good question - all I know is my body does not like either one. I stick to the Gemma Pea protein and there is a potato one out there too that I would like to try.0
