New to MFP and new to living overseas (in China)

Hello all. I have recently joined MFP after moving from Canada to Beijing 6 weeks ago. I was working a a very stressful job in Canada and let my weight spiral out of control. I am 5'4 and my weight was just shy of the 200lb mark this past summer. Since moving to China I have joined a gym and have been consciously eating less than before. I have recently started cooking at home and working out more, but am finding navigating Chinese grocery stores a bit of a challenge.
Also, I have recently started avoiding eating out, but it makes life quite challenging. It would be great to hear tips from those that are often on the go and need to eat when they are out. Being in China, I am very unsure what to choose in restaurants (salads are definitely out). Also, have any of you moved overseas and had to navigate different foods and lack of calorie information when you are dieting?

Hi, yes I have been in China for 3 months and I am diabetic.
So eating out, it is hard to avoid lots of white carbs, such as needles, rice, bread, dumplings, steamed buns, etc. That’s where you get most of your calories from and of course all the sugary drinks. Limit the amount and the serving size of these and eat more vegetables and tofu. Even though there is a lot of oil used, It does not add up as fast as big bowls of noodles.0
