Food Remedies.

Winter's coming.

Would like to know of some remedies in case of a cough, soar throat, stuffy nose, etc. Any others that you can think of would be nice to know.

Yes I know I can take medicine, but it's nice to know regardless.

Thanks.

I always want curry when I have sinus stuff. Literally knocks the snot right out of you. Better to bring it home to eat so as to spare fellow diners the dramatic catharsis.

Honey....antibacterial and yummy too! Can't beat a spoonful of honey for a sore throat or a warm glass of honey and lemon. Sniffing some Olbas oil is also good for clearing a blocked nose.

If the main problem is a sore throat, I recommend Traditional Medicinal's Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat. Helped immeasurably through a nasty case of strep throat (not by itself, eventually had to get antibiotics). It's sweet on its own but as Mabel says honey can only add to the goodness.

When I get sick, the supplements I take are food-based--oregano oil is great, and one brand has oregano with fennel and ginger. I also chop up garlic and add a quarter cup of it to canned soup (or even V8 juice) before I heat it up, plus a dash of cayenne.
