Plateau...

One month ago, I decided to get back on the wagon and take my weight loss seriously again. I have a total of 40 pounds to lose. In my first week, I lost a whopping 9 pounds! Unfortunately, I have not lost any additional pounds in the last 3 weeks. I have not gained any back, so that's good, but still no more lost. I know that I need to crack the whip on myself and be more diligent with my exercising, but it's just quite frustrating to lose SO much to start off and then, nothing :(

The same happened for me at first. I lost 6lbs the first week and then went crazy with exercise and being way under on my calories, this then stalled me for ages but now i've found the sweet spot of exercise and calories that see's pretty constant results. In the end I had to up my calories and reduce my exercise (i know this sounds crazy) and i put in more strength training.

I wasnt eating enough and I was exercising alot. This meant my body didnt have the energy source to sustain so it held on to fat.

Try changing your regime up a bit. Calculate 80% of your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expendature) and only take in that much. Exercise but eat back those calories.

Although what you eat is 80% and what you do is 20% you might still find that changing up your workout routine might give you the push you need.
I don't know what sport are you doing, but if you eat under your calorie goal and still the weight is not budging, then might be a good idea to mix up your exercise routine. Our bodies adapt to whatever we do, and are trying to spend as little energy as possible on the task at hand. So if you are avid runner for example, then over time you will lose less calories while covering the same distance.
The trick is to mix it up every few months. Start doing something you never done before, may it be kickboxing, or weight lifting or swimming or P90X or whatever you find new acceptable. Challenge your body, engage new muscles and you will see better results.
