When ever I do upper arm exercises my elbows pop, it hurts when it first happens and then feels like a relief. They pop about 3-4 times during the exercise. This happens when I do push ups and any exercise that uses my arms.

I have this in one elbow - if it is the same thing, but only in one elbow. It feels like a sharp stabbing pain and then after it cracks it goes away. Best way I can describe where it is, is if you take your right hand and feel the point of your left elbow. Then run up your arm from there and you can feel a tendon which runs down into a gap behind the pointy elbow bit. That is what cracks and hurts on me.

From what I've read, it is 2 tendons there that are in too close proximity and are forcing their way past each other as you extend your arm under pressure.

I don't know the solution though, so if this is the same as yours and you find one I'd be most interested to know.

I've had it in my right elbow since high school. Something pops in my elbow whenever I extend it with any sort of pressure against my hand. It is not normally painful, or only slightly, but it is troubling and annoying. I thought it was from getting my elbow "chopped" in wrestling, but I don't believe that is the case now. It kept me from working out for quite a long time until I found a workaround. From all the research I've done online, it looks like it's possible that a couple different things can cause similar symptoms, but to get permanent relief, in all likelihood surgery will be required. So, I discovered on mine that if I put the least amount of pressure on the point where it pops, it keeps the tendon in the groove around the elbow (I believe that is what it is), and it doesn't pop. So - I went and bought and tried out a couple different "sleeves" to go over my elbow and keeps pressure on it while I lift. It really helps, and I hardly every have any popping. I've been doing this for the last year, and for me, it is definitely better than considering surgery for it.

Thanks Coolhand I will look for some type of brace to help with the pressure.

Its funny that I went to the gym for a year and my trainer heard it pop all the time and would ask me what is that? I would have thought he might know as he was a trainer and should know all these things. Made me wonder if he actually knew what he was doing, then I ended up with a pulled muscle in my groin that I had to have months of therapy for, and it still isn't 100%. That was it for me and I cancelled my membership.

And chrishgt4 it sounds like the same thing I am experiencing but I have it in both elbows. It could be a tenant thing. I remember being told when I was born my hands were clasped closed and they had a hard time getting me to open my hands. They are alright now but my elbows pop. Wonder if we are born with it?

Here's another question, can either of you lock your elbow when you arm wrestle?
    I can and I'm a girl. LOL

Haha no I can't - but I think maybe you should enter some competitions! Or at least get some bar bets going lol

What Coolhand mentioned works for me actually - if I put something like string tied round where the tendon is then it's fine - only problem is it cuts off the circulation.

I got an elbow support which also helped but I don't use it because it also aids your triceps in extending and I like to do weights with as little aids as possible.

Bahaha not sure I want to tie a string on my arm my circulation is bad enough now, besides that may be a little difficult by myself. Besides that I"m not looking to get super pumped so a brace may work alright.

Well I used one of these and it worked really well. I used to use this and the equivalent knee brace version when I was fighting and training and they really are good.

Thanks for the link it gives me an idea of what to look for in a brace. Appreciate it.
