Anyone else get really cranky days?

Hi, I've been doing this for 75 days now, as MFP as just joyfully advised me. (I'm sure it thinks that's motivating, but I just find it depressing). Anyway, I have just realised today that lately I've been really cranky on Thursdays. Maybe not every Thursday and maybe not exclusively Thursdays, but most notably, a couple of weeks ago at my aikido class, it all suddenly got too much for me, I got teary and arsey at the same time, and announced that I'm just not doing my next grading and that I'm just going to stay a green belt forever. My very sweet friend told me later that I was really really cranky and that she was scared I didn't like her any more! I actually think this may be because I feel I'm so critical of myself all the time because I'm constantly thinking about how much weight I have to lose, I just don't want anyone else judging me too. I digress. The point is, it's Thursday again, and I was hungry by 10:00 am. I had half my lunch at 11. I had the other half at 12. My lunch break isn't until half 12! I had to go and buy more food because I have a headache, and I can feel the crankiness coming on again. The most senior teacher in our area is visiting our class tonight so I need to bring my A-game. I've been saying for a couple of weeks now that maybe I should eat more, that 1200 calories just isn't working for me, but at the same time, I think MFP must have assigned me that limit for a reason. I do tend to eat more at the weekends, then stick strictly to 1200 Mon - Thurs, which I think might be why my inner-b*tch comes out on a Thursday. Anyone else have this problem?

Any reason you are eating 1200 calories? Is it because you selected a 2 lb a week loss and that's just what MFP told you to eat?

I found this thread very helpful:

Yes it's scary eating more. I am only at 0.5 lb a week losses at best and i have been afraid to eat more. But I just noticed that my last run to really go well was after a few higher calorie days in a row. And I have been really tired lately. So yes, eating not enough can definitely make one cranky. Are you eating back your exercise calories? I think it's fine to eat more on the weekends and less on weekdays, but maybe try flattening it out a little more so you aren't so low on weekdays. I mean in the end you have to do what works for you, but my personal experience is if I try to limit for a few days in a row I will lose it and splurge. If I stick to a higher average overall I find I can stick with it better. Good luck!

I only have three moods: happy, indifferent, and completely pissed off. As such, I definitely get the occasional day where I spend the whole time plotting the demise of everyone I see. I generally eat the same thing (or pretty close to it) every day, so it isn't a food thing on my end. Just a case of **** happens, I suppose.

I get really very mean and sarcastic or overly emotional and easily teary-eyed right before that time of the month. Not that it compares to every week. It also happens if I struggle sleeping, but I've know that for a long time. Especially as a teenager I used to tear into someone and rip them to shreds up one side and down the other, and then burst into tears. I was putting on weight then, though, and super hormonal. Teenager stuff. Now I'm mid twenties, and I know the warning signs when I should just shut up.
  • OH heck yes!! I just had one the other day. I'm not sure if it was hormones, or something else. It started at night, and lasted all the next day. I avoided as many people as I could, so I wouldn't say something terrible. It took all my will power not to turn to comfort foods.

1200 was what MFP gave me because I have a sedentary lifestyle. I thought I had selected 1/2 - 1 lbs a week but I just checked and I was on 1 1/2 lbs a week.. I've changed it to 1lb a week and it's only given me 50 calories more, but I usually go over by that much anyway.

I do usually eat some of my exercise calories back, not all because I think MFP vastly over-estimates them.

I'm glad it's not just me though. I'll maybe try having 100 calories more a day and see if that helps.

I've found that I get angry every time I do a LBT class - I've realised that its because I cant do sit ups properly because my belly and boobs get in the way. It means that by the time I get home I'm in a horrible mood and take it out on my boyfriend.

I also shouted at Joe (the boyfriend) last week because I was looking forward to eating a crusty bread roll when I got home from the gym and he'd given it to the dog. It wasnt really the end of the world but I felt really hard done by!

Im trying to keep my temper under control but dieting can make me a grumpy angry person!

Anyone have any tips on how to not be a complete b*tch when Im feeling like this?!

I'm cranky most of the time too, not because I want more food, because I want to be thinner, and it's not happening quick enough, I still eat bad things as I've got such a sweet tooth, and when my cals have gone they have gone, and I sometimes go over up to about 50 cals, I just think its never going to happen,

Yep- my blood sugar drops and I get really cranky!! I am not diabetic but when it drops I become a regular crazy woman and I know I NEED food and you best NOT get in my way lol.....you need more than 1200 cals a day....try at least 1400 ....you prolly wont eat them all every day after you get over the "I am Starving" thinking mode....constantly thinking about food can make you think are hungry when your not- at least for me- so make menus simple and not so much thought....keep healthy snacks on your person for those moments when you are "starving" and blood sugar drops so you can keep it even and dont end up splurging on something you dont really want:) ... Also go easy on yourself missy! You are out there doing it!!! You should be proud of yourself! Many Many more people still wasting away on the couch wondering why they feel sick and nasty all the time.....you taking control of your life and your health...you are awesome!!! :) keep up the great work!!!

also ....this helps me....exercise....just going for a walk, bike ride or whatever....think about how nice it is out...even if its raining:) each day is a gift as is each person we have in our lives....positive thoughts, smiling and moving raise the "good feeling" hormones just as sex and chocolate does lol :)

Oh heavens yes! I get mad when people around me have donughts (even though I've never been a big donught eater) or ask me what my big goal is or just some days when they breathe. It's really about refocusing and realizing it's okay to feel annoyed on occasion. It's not okay if you are annoyed all the time though :) In that case I try to readjust some things, eat more calories one day, less the next, try a new excercise, call a friend and whine. Anything to make me feel like I am not stuck in a rut. Whatever you do, do not feel like you are alone in this! You are not! Have a wonderful day today because it's Friday and not Thursday!

heck ya i get cranky but not because of diet or exercise .. most people are cranky from dieting because they feel deprived and are mad at the world that they cant eat fast food , chips ect... its all a mindset with that.. but i get cranky because im in politics lol

Cranky is my default. If you ask my kids and husband, they'll say I'm crankier when I'm hungry. Or tired. Or when the laundry is piled up. Or the dishes are stacked in the sink. Or when we've run out of chocolate.
