I am just curious who else is grossed out be the casing? I know that it is necessary for making but does everyone actually eat it?

What grosses you out about it? How do you eat sausage - scrape the middle out and leave the skin?0

I think it is DISGUSTING! I used to eat sausage, but once I found out what the casing was, I never ate it again. Now, I am vegan, so it's not an issue!0

Yuppers.
I sometimes stuff my own sausages, so it's no big whoop to me.

I eat it and see no problem. I mean, you're eating ground up dead pig. Does it really matter if it has a thin layer of intestines keeping it together?0 -
I thought this said sausage chasing! :laugh:0

I have no problem with what it is just how it sticks in my teeth and is super slimy.0

Ground meat encased in sheep or pig intestines, delish0

Sausage is too awesome to be stated in the same sentence as "grossed out." Not to mention that i am now upset because I *seriously* thought this was going to be a recipe! :explode:

The real deal casing is intestine(which is all natural). Some sausage today is made with synthetic casing. I don't see what's gross about the casing, It's all been cleaned out. But, hey I'm a country boy and don't cull much that's why I'm here.0

oooh....ick.....say it ain't so0 -
I wholeheartedly disagree; natural casings are not super slimy. Makes me hungry and now I think you are not preparing them right.0

Just put the sausage in your mouth....go ahead.:bigsmile:0

My sister does that. I, personally, like all of the sausage.0 -
I grew up picking the fat from the meat, cutting it into portions for the chops, bacon, etc, grinding meat for sausage, mixing said sausage, washing the casing ANNNND, then tying and linking the sausage... So, nope. Haha. Doesn't bother me.0

Sausage casings are generally made from the intestines of cows/pigs/sheep.0 -
Mmmm I love the "pop" when I bite into the intestines. I can't wait to stuff my own sausage this December.0

I far rather have a sausage casing made out of intestines than the plastic ones.
If the sausage casing grosses you out, what about the insides of the sausage? All kinds of parts of the animal are put into it.0 -
