just curious, you do low carb because you have health conditions or something like that (I've pcos myself so curious about it).
    thanks !

I don't have any health conditions. I went from eating <700 cals a day to eating less than that plus no fat to completely changing it and eating 4,000 cals a day (no joke....worst 3 months ever). I've struggled with eating since 2009 and keto was the BEST thing that I have discovered!!! I can honestly say it saved my life and wouldn't eat any other way :D

****Here is a chat where they talk about PCOS and low carb that may help!

that seems to be soooooooo restrictive that i'm not sure how you guys do it ??

It really isn't. Think about what you'll be cutting out: sugar, bread, pasta, and starches. That's it. You can still live perfectly well on berries, veggies, meat, dairy, and nuts. Very similar to what people eat when they're trying to "eat clean." Whole foods, healthy fibrous veggies, etc.

Not saying it isn't hard at first (really was for me, at least), but once you adapt to burning an alternate source of fuel, your body just seems to work better :)

Fellow low-carber, sent a friend request.

I found this on Pinterest, and it's my new inspiration for meals & snacks: http://pinterest.com/pinesnpickets/low-carb-recipes-stuff/
Warning - it's graphic food porn.

I have done low-carb/keto twice, lost 40+ lbs, and gained it all back both times within 5 or 6 months...it does work, and it works quickly, but for me it is very difficult to maintain once I went back to 'normal' eating. I personally have finally lost 66 lbs and kept it off by using myfitnesspal and sticking to a low calorie diet and very diligent exercise. I do still try to limit carbs, but no where near at the drastic levels as the traditional low-carb diets. For me, it just is not the answer. I know for others of you, it is. I'm not judging, just sharing my personal experience. I do think if you have a huge amount to lose, it is a good way to jumpstart weight loss.

Anyone feel free to add me - I need some motivation to drop my carbs back down again! I was eating higher (100-150 range) as my activity level could support it, but now that rugby season is over I need to drop back down. I'm not super LC, but I'd like to get in the 30-60 range (again, depends on my activity level).

To the person asking about PCOS/health conditions: low-carb as well as gluten-free has alleviated a lot of issues I had and didn't even account to my diet (as in what I eat every day): eczema, acid reflux, IBS, etc. After 7+ years of aciphex/protonix/prilosec for GERD, metformin (why take it when I can just stop eating the carbs causing me to need it?!), birth control (so I'd have a period - I'm now on a regular cycle which hasn't happened on it's own in over 10 years, thanks PCOS), etc.

It does seem hard at first, but it's all about planning ahead. I always make extra food to have for lunches, dinners, etc. After dinner I pack up leftovers for lunch the next day (or sometimes 2 days).

    Agreed x100!!!

    Many alternatives out there!

Use almond flour/carbquik for breads, bagels, pretty much all baking (including desserts :D)
Cauliflower can replace rice and mashed potatoes
    Squash noodles = AMAZING!!

Regarding it being restrictive I think the key for me was understanding that the foods that I am avoiding (grains, legumes, dairy, sugar) are not only not great for weight management but are actually potentially harmful to my health generally.

This makes it easier to make it a long-term thing and not just a passing strategy to 'lose weight'.

It sure does take some forward-planning but I find it's worth it.

The feeling of being primarily fuelled by fat and ketones (logs) and not glucose (kindling) works for me on many levels.

I've been doing Keto/LCHF since May. It's been great for me. I actually don't feel restricted. This diet has led me stop eating almost all processed foods and doing a lot more cooking.

I'm always in the market for new friends, so add me. :-)
  • i am a low carber as well! i have had great success with it. first time, i lost 55 lbs in 2 months. i cut carbs hard and only get them from my vegetables. i don't eat anything with color (besides green). i am a huge meat eater, so the diet works great for me. i feel better and the weight comes off quickly. anyone feel free to friend me!

I've been low carbing for just 5 weeks, one of those was a week abroad on holiday! I'm loving cooking, trying new food. Eating clean feels right to me. IBS has gone as well. What does that say?

Please feel free to add me, all support gladly received and given

I started with keto about six weeks ago. It's been a TOTAL change for me, since carbs were the majority of what I enjoyed eating. I'm still constantly surprised by how... NOT restricted I feel. Please feel free to add me! I'd love some more keto friends.

I have been contemplating a low-carb approach to end my sugar addiction. I think a modified version of Atkins will work for me. Unfortunately, I have to wait until the beginning of November due to financial reasons.

I am trying to do a Paleo diet and have shttp://cavemanketo.com/configuring-mfp/et up my MFP according to cavemanketo: -- but if you look at my stats I eat too many carbs most days -- I still snack on dark chocolate treats and eat things like mashed potatos that I know I shouldn't eat.... oh well, there's always tomorrow!

I doing the low carb diet now, was on for a month, then after a week's break started again on Monday. Since starting it I lost more weight quicker than doing the low fat, and I haven't lost lean muscle mass.

I'm doing LC because I specifically want to lose fat and build muscle. I do Martial Arts training twice a week currently, but am moving up to 4 times a week, so my carb intake is usually between 50 - 60 grams a day. I will be keeping my carb intake in that level (I don't know how you manage <25grams carbs a day!).

Please add me, I am the only person i know doing Low Carb, and I would love the support!
