Wii Fit Plus calorie count, is it accurate?

I did Wii Fit for an hour yesterday (expert bike, 10 min hoola hoop, rhythm marching etc), and it said I burned over 300 calories (can't remember the exact amount), and it just seems too high... I didn't feel like I had done enough exercise that would have burned that amount. The treadmill kills me, and in 30mins I burn about 280 calories, and that seems more accurate.

So has anyone worn a HRM while doing Wii Fit and were their calories burnt accurate?

WF+ is indeed off, but that 300 cals is a lot lower than you think. When I burn 350 on the WF+, my Polar F7 HRM says I burned well over 500. I tend to trust my HRM since it's only a few inches away from my life force.
  • So you're actually burning more? I can't afford a HRM right now, well at least not a good one... It's just hard to believe I burnt 300 calories barely breaking a sweat!

When I do the games, I throw my whole body into it, to the point where I'm dripping sweat at the end of 350 cals, so maybe you were burning less. Weight, and current fitness, has a lot to do with it, too.

It's good to know that it's actually more calories than it says instead of the other way around. I just know that I am moving more than I usually do.

My HRM consistently says I've burned more than WF+ says I've burned. Sometimes twice as much!:noway: The cals on there are a generalization based on a formula. The only number in that formula that depends on you is your weight. If I didn't have a HRM, I would feel safe going with the cals, but I, too, come away sweating:laugh: Good luck figuring out what to go with!

Thats a good point! When I do eliptical at the gym the calorie count is much lower than MFP says too. I go with what the machine says since that has intensity (or lack of LOL) level
  • Well doing the biking, segway, hoola hoop and obstacle course gets my heart pumping and I feel like I'm actually doing something! Actually yesterday I ended up doing the last 5mins of hoola hoop with a 35lb toddler on my hip and THAT was hard! I definitely get into it, but it just seems too easy. I have lost 6lbs since December 30th though, so something is going okay!

You must be a super multi-tasker! Great idea!

i went to the website. signed up, and was just confused!! lol, looked like to much to do so i quit reading. thanks anyways tho.....
  • I did Wii Fit Plus for a half hour today (the 6 min rhythm boxing, island biking, the long run, the short run +, the obstacle course (a few times...it kept resetting me to the start every time I accidentally jumped for real..oops) and per my Body Bugg, it was around 320 calories.

Based on my weight tracker versus yours, I'd say I'm quite a bit larger, so I'm naturally going to burn more calories. But if you did it for twice as long, 300 seems reasonable.

And I LOVE Just Dance. Going to try that on the Body Bugg tomorrow. :)

Well, I've been logging about 3/4's of the calories that it tells me I burned, just to be on the safe side... But thanks! I should probably try and save up for a HRM! And I can't wait to try Just Dance.

So, did anyone ever figure the calories burned doing Just Dance? I did about 30 minutes this morning, and it felt like a pretty good workout. It was my first time, so all the moves were easy, but I tried to do the ones that were more effort.
  • I am frustrated by the amount of work I seem to be putting into the Wii Fit Plus games and what little caloric energy output it is giving me as a reward. I'd rather err on the side of caution than over exaggerate my calories burned, though. If I want to really work it, I'll be in the gym on the elliptical and buring 2x the calories for the same amount of time.

I would love to know how many calories the Just Dance burns. I just did 45 minutes and I am dripping with sweat. I am a former dancer and I know the routines pretty well by now so I can really work it. I did a search online and "the best answer" was "200-300 calories per hour depending on how much you get into it."
  • I read on a forum that every 10 sweat points is equal to 1 calorie, give or take.

Yes,I too was looking to see how many calories 1 sweat point was worth. I received just dance 2 for free from houseparty.com. It is very fun. And great for family time. I wish they used calories as unit of measurement and not sweat points. And they should measure all of you dancing, not just when you are alone doing just sweat. I mean there should be was way for the dance battles that I have with the kids to count toward my sweat points. I shouldn't have to dance alone to burn calories.

I have also been searching for info on the calories burned during Just Dance 2. I got the first Just Dance today, and haven't tried it yet. I hope it has the sweat points on it, too. I really wish they'd make a 3rd one, and put the calories burned on there. Even if you had to enter personal info first, like age and weight. Or they could make it so you could weigh with the balance board. I'd REALLY love it if they'd put some Lady Gaga songs on it. Her songs make me wanna dance anyway! LOL
  • I personally do not like Wii Fit or Wii Fit Plus. I like EA Active More Workouts, Gold's Gym Dance, and Walk It Out. . .

I have to give credit to the wii for my weight loss so far.
I have added the dumbbell kit to the controllers and
I have a raiser for the board on order.

Thinking of getting another game to add variety, but the rhythm boxing
Was quite interesting with the dumbbells!
Although I did wonder what effect they had on calories burnt?
