I desperately need new shoes! Most of my working out is cardio, on an elliptical, occasionally walking outside, and I have been having a lot of lower back pain. What would you recommend?

I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back and I found that walking in a high quality running shoe (I'm wearing Asics) has really helped. The extra shock absorption seems to make all the difference...they were expensive but worth it.

Have you had your back pain checked out?

Try on a pair of Under Armour Spines. I have had a lot of shoes in my life and I have never worn a more comfortable pair than the Spines.

We have a place here called "Run Fit Sports." My wife took me there, they had me stand on some pressure pads and it showed how my weight was distrubuted on my feet. After they surveyed me to see what type of exercises I did, they recommended a few pair of shoes for my feet type and exercise type combined. I tried them all on and got the best feeling pair. The shoes have helped a LOT!! If you have something like that in your area, I would recommend it. Warning: The shoe prices are not for the faint at heart. :)

If you have a new balance store in your area, go there...they'll analyze the way you walk, recommend a type of shoe, measure both length, and width of your feet so you're sure to get the right fit...plus they last quite well...
