Hello all.
I found this recipe, and i'm entranced by the title. could it really be the best ever?

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Makes 6-8 servings

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 tablespoons dried oregano
1 tablespoon salt
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 green bell peppers, chopped
2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 (4 ounce) cans chopped green chile peppers, drained
2 (12 ounce) packages vegetarian burger crumbles
3 (28 ounce) cans whole peeled tomatoes, crushed
1/4 cup chili powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can black beans
1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn

I'd love to give it a go, but there's a few ingredients in it that i don't know. I really need a recipe translator! can someone out there help me find the right replacements?

I need to know what a can of green chile beans is like. i can't think of anything here that sounds like that..
and what are vegetarian burger crumbles? would it be something like this? http://www.quorn.com.au/Products/Quorn_Mince_300g.aspx

thanks!

Green chile peppers are apparently also known as Anaheim Peppers? (http://phoenix.about.com/od/foodanddrink/ss/chilepepper_8.htm) - don't know either. Looks like a chilli pepper to me...

And then vegetarian burger crumbles sounds like Quorn Mince to me, but can I just say something?

Quorn Mince is probably the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten!! I love food and I will eat anything generally. But Quorn Mince was just plain yuck. I made my usual pasta and mince recipe with Quorn Mince and it looks like beef mince, but that's where the similarities stop. The consistency was more like a medium cheese or like tofu (and I love tofu!), but the taste was like nothing. It tasted like nothing. It comes in the packet already browned, so you would think there would be some flavour (I expected it to be like soya mince).

Rather use soya mince or something else for the "vegetarian burger crumbles" instead of Quorn Mince.

Sorry, I didn't really contribute much, I just had to share my experience with Quorn Mince.

i can't help you with the vegetarian burger crumbles, but instead of a can of chopped green chile peppers, i know you can buy jars of old el paso chopped green jalapeños?? not sure if they are the same thing though?

canned green chiles- just use several chopped fresh green chilli peppers, they are probably better for you anyway :o)

Vegetarian burger crumbles- Use quorn or soya mince.

    FYI- Garbanzo beans are chickpeas.

ha ha, thanks for the warning mulderpf, but i actually quite like quorn mince :) it needs to have some flavour cooked into it, but i use it heaps. maybe i've been a vegetarian too long!
