Panic over saving food for later

I grew up in a family with a lot of rules around food, and I'm working hard to change my eating patterns. One thing I tend to do is eat past the point of fullness because I'm anxious there won't be good food to eat later on, or that someone else will eat my food before I get a chance to eat it myself if I save it for later. So, these days, I'm practicing setting food aside and dealing with my stress/fear/etc.
Does anyone else have any experience with this? I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have successfully changed their patterns. I'd love to know what you found useful as a way to deal with this anxiety.
