Vitamins

I have noticed that I haven't been getting enough vitamins now that I'm eating less. What kind of multivitamin do you use? I just borrowed a couple from my mom until I have time to go to the store today. Is there a difference between brands?

I use the Target Brand Up & Up multivitamin. I personally don't think there's a huge difference (aside from cost) between the different brands.

I take the Centrum Chewable multivitamin. I'm sure there's some difference between brands, but I didn't put a great deal of time into worrying about it. Centrum should be reliable.

What are you talking about? Have you got some sort of vitamin levels indicator?

    If so, I want one.

I don't know how to get to it on the website, but on my phone it shows how much fat, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, carbohydrates, fiber, sugars, protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron I've consumed for the day and how much I'm supposed to have. I have been lacking in Vitamin A, Calcium, and Iron which is why I want to start using a multivitamin.

I wouldn't worry about that, just try and eat a wide variety of foods. The problem with the website is that all nutrition is user created, and often the micronutrients don't feature in the nutrition label, or people just can't be bothered to add it.

You'll be able to see examples of this, if you look at your dairy and nobody's put any calcium (but you know it's got some). Or the iron in red meat, chickpeas, beans or spinach.
Vitamin A is in lots of foods, like meat, poultry, fish, eggs, yogurt, carrots, sweet potato, squash, brocolli, peppers, avocado, peaches, apricots, melon, mangoes... you'd have a hard time avoiding it.

I take Equate Women's Once Daily, it's Wal-marts version of Women's One-a-day. Whatever you chose, someone once told me that any vitamin needs to be water soluble to work. To test for this, put the vitamin in a cup of water, if after on hour you don't have a little pile of powder in the bottom of the glass, it's not water soluble and your body wont be able to absorb the vitamins. I learned this form a former co-worker, she is not a Dr or a nurse or anything, but has always lead a very healthy lifestyle and is very knowledgeable about nutrition.

I don't regularly take a vitamin, but I really prefer the gummy ones. The pills and capsules always irritate the lining of my stomach... and well, I have to subtract breakfast calories off my diary, if you know what I mean.

Vitamins have made a huge difference in how I feel. I take Nature Made vitamins and tend to stick with the liquid gels. These are available at most retailers (WalMart, Walgreens, CVS.) Walgreens and CVS also have buy 1, get 1 free deals on a regular basis.

    Do you weigh it?

I take Centrum Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement (personalized for adults under 50). This is the first vitamin I've taken that actually gives me energy and makes me feel normal. I've tried other namebrands and for a long time I hated taking vitamins because they make me hungry by increasing my appetite. This vitamin is perfect for me. Don't know why, but it is.
