When you want to lose weight badly enough, and want to be successful, it's not a chore. If you're too lazy to log your food, this probably isn't the best site for you. I'm assuming since you're too lazy to log, you're probably too lazy to exercise. Weight loss and health will come when you decide being lazy isn't reaping any benefits, and that if you want to see change you're going to have to put forth this thing called work. I don't think many of us "like" having to plug in every little thing that goes in our mouths....

Sorry for being blunt. But quite frankly, if you're not willing to put forth a little effort, you're never going to see results.

you being really judgemtal of me, i actually burnt like 2 meals of of calories on my work out today. and i did for people who doubt me and think im lazy, my haters be my motivators!!! I'm going to lose much more weight than most people on the whole of MPF i bet.xxxx

If your losing weight without logging your intake and you know your eating healthy then it doesnt matter if you cant be bothered logging it, your doing it without the need (which is great by the way)

Some of us rely on this to see what we are eating. Keep coming on though its great for ideas and info.

honestly when i feel too lazy to log, i just eat the exact same thing i ate the day before. that way i only have to click a button rather than search the database.

this is why i end up eating so many eggs, salads avocados, berries and chicken thighs

Yep this is a good idea. Sometimes I prelog the whole week too, or at least a few days. I plan my meals and snacks, go grocery shopping, then log everything so that all I have to do is look at it each day and make sure I only eat what I logged.

It does get easier and less of a chore when it becomes habit. I just got a new smartphone that actually works, so for the past 5 months I've been logging on my computer. Commit to logging for one week. Start on Monday if that's a good day for you. I think you'll realize it really helps a lot and after a week you'll probably want to keep logging.

    Good luck! :)

I am here to lose weight, not to show off about how great my diet was each day.

Hey there - the thing is, when you log everything that you eat, you'll really know how many calories you're consuming. You may even benefit from knowing the carbs / fat / protein and other things you choose to show. I choose sodium as well and am flabbergasted at how much sodium is in pretty much every prepared food, from cheez whiz to bread to a big mac. No wonder my ankles are swollen!

I have found that if I "estimate" then I definitely estimate low, and may ignore the calories from, oh, 10 oreo doublestuff cookies. Then I would wonder how come even if I exercise regularly and hard, that I don't lose weight.

Knowledge is power, my friend, and by logging everything, you're on the way to a more powerful life.

You were asking for opinions. It is clear that you did not want honest opinions, you just wanted people to coddle you and assure you that what you were doing is fine. Don't ask for opinions if you don't want anyone to tell it like it is.

It's about accountability. I don't care what's in your food diary and I'm guessing you don't care what's in mine. I read some of them sometimes for ideas.

That being said, logging food is the one place that you are accountable and you have to face everything that you put in your mouth. It's not about "showing off" how good your diet is. It's about accepting what foods you eat and in what quantity.

The support at this site is WONDERFUL, but it can only be as WONDERFUL as the effort that you put into it. The food and exercise journals are some of the tools provided to make us successful on this journey.

I'm not sure why you think no one is advising you in this thread (per I think your 2nd post), but in fact, there are numerous people who are responding that YES, you should JOURNAL/LOG to achieve the maximum success of this site.

Log don't log it's your choice, Don't get all upset when you tell people you don't log because your lazy. There's not a lot of tolerance for lazy around here. Changing to a healthy lifestyle is your choice. Most people posting here are looking for help, motivation, and information.

You can log as you go without a smart phone. Just write it down. You don't have to log it online ever. The important part of tracking it is just that you do it and that you set and follow reasonable limits. The point of logging it here is to make it more convenient. By providing easy to use tools MFP is trying to make it easier for the average person to track their caloric intake and to a lesser extent their exercise. Ultimately burning more calories than you eat is what is going to help you get to a healthy weight. No amount of exercise will help you lose weight if your eating more calories than you burn. This is the premise MFP is built on. Maybe it's not the right place for you.

If you can control what you eat than more power to you. Then why are you here? No reason for you to log as long as your consuming less than your burning. Most of us can't do that without tracking it. I assume you didn't do that in the past and that's why your here. Yes MFP logging is a tool but it's a tool many here rely on and spend a lot of effort using. To belittle that is not going to make you popular.

What response were you expecting? Did you really expect a room full of people with history's of not controlling their eating to tell you that you don't need to track? The point of the way that MFP teaches weight loss is that if you do it right you won't have to do it forever that eventually you'll be able to eat at a maintenance level which is much easier to maintain. To lose a signifcant amount of weight in a short time span your probably going to have to fixate on it and it sucks but unless you can prove there is a better way to do it you shouldn't be negative about the MFP way. It's working for a lot of us.

I'm the opposite - I love logging in my food choices!

I don't have a smartphone either (boo!) so I just log in at home or at work (shhh, our secret). For me, it's like starting every day with a wallet full of cash (calories) and I get to decide how I'm going to spend it (food). Since my personal account only holds 1200 calories, I have to budget pretty carefully and make good choices.

Logging what I'm going to eat ahead of time takes a little bit of planning but I'm almost guaranteed to stay within my allotted calories. I can also do some rearrangements if needed. If I feel like having chocolate one day, maybe I'll sacrifice the cottage cheese until the following day. When I don't plan my day and I sit down at night and figure out how much the teriyaki chicken at lunch set me back, I get pretty upset with my choices. To avoid that upset, I just plan ahead.

Congrats on the weight loss, that's great! Logging your food choices is a wonder way to document your weight loss journey.

i guess i kind of wanted the kind of feedback that rwhawkes, alpine1994 and other people gave, that is useful to me, rather than comments that are not useful and actually i just find them upsetting. I don't know why things is like this, every time i post on the boards, i take a big risk, will this be productive or will this just end up horrible for me and i cannot seem to guess how it'll go and i find it hard to manage, it gets me so upset when i am trying my best and losing weight and getting fit and people acting like i committed evil.

  • I'm pretty bad at logging in every day too. So on days I don't log in I just eat what I did the day before, or if I log in the morning I'll put everything I plan to eat and exercise for the day...which also motivates me to stick to only eating what I've logged for the day. If I didn't say anything about a cookie...well no cookie for me that day.

One of the ways I eat less is knowing that I have to log it, and sometimes the food isn't worth the effort of logging. If you want to eat less you should make eating less convenient.
that is a really good way of thinking of it. i wish i was rich enough for a smart phone (in b4 everyone say am too lazy to work and get one, i work really hard its true) so i can check out that and think, hmmm not worth the log, it costs to much for cals!!xxxxxx

get an itouch. all the cool stuff from a smart phone, and no monthly annoying costs. i log at work where we have wifi, and at home, again, wifi. i got mine for 150ish, but i'm sure prices will drop going into the holidays.

I try to log everyday, but I don't always put everything in. Especially if its my own recipe. On that matter, I do always try to make healthy food choices. As you know, some days will not be perfect. I don't think you're lazy, but your responses sound like it.

i am not belittleing logging, am just saying is it really neededc for everyone, everyday? it was a genuine question.

I need to go for a quick bath (so people can't say im unhygenic as well as lazy!!!) so i'll respond to anything futher when i get back... I'd prefer people only comment if they have something constructive and polite to say, i'm just going to ignore any rude posts (unless they are really trolltacular and get the better of me, i am quite easily wound up to be fair, i am a good target hahahahaha)xxxx

I find that I log my breakfast just before or during eating it, my dinner at work just before I eat it on my mobile and my tea on my pc before I eat it. Any additional snacks I add straight away or within a few hours in the day. It all becomes a habit, or at least it has to me - I do it without thinking often. Having a phone with the app definitely helps so maybe its worth you investing if it helps you with this. I find it a great motivation being highly accountable for what I am eating.

serious question though, what is it about me that makes people think im real lazy and demotivated? My progress doesnt seem to suggest so? I think it is because i am sometimes quite light hearted and humourous in talking, i can be a little self depricating, i dont think you need to be all serious and pious just because youon a diet, i couldn'tlive my life that way!!

I did a LOT of logging in the beginning to the point where I have gotten pretty good about not having to log. Some days I do, some days I don't. If I know it's going to be a hard day, like going out to eat with my husband or family, I always check the menu before we go and log it beforehand. In those instances, logging keeps me accountable. Like others have mentioned, you're not "showing off" what you eat. Mine is private now because I don't feel I need as much advice as I used to, but before I liked having people comment on what I ate and what I could do to improve my eating habits.

If you don't want to log, nothing we can say will change your mind. I do suggest giving it a try, and let people help you if it's a concern. If not, write it down on paper like others have mentioned. I personally like having a record of what I eat, especially because I'm forgetful and will forget that I had a piece of chicken and try to eat something else I don't need, but that's just me.
  • Sometimes I feel like I'm lazy to log and put everything on MFP... but i discover that if I do it, it helps me eating better because i dont want to feel shame of what i have eaten during the day.. so, i just log and fill my food diary! After a while, it becomes an habit and u just do it! and, the best part is when u fill the exercise section, and see how much u burned. it makes me feel good!
Do you think that this can help you?
Ah! I usually log in the morning, set my food diary for the entire day and than, if something change, i replace it later in the afternoon or when i get the chance.

I agree the logging is to help you; well, the whole site is to help you really, so use what works for you. I like the logging because I think that is the major issue in my particular battle of the bulge. I ate too much, and the wrong things...I feel more in control when I log it, and I know how many calories I've eaten, and how many I have left...it's no longer a guessing game for me (a game I was apparently not good at). Now...you seem to be in a different boat...and perhaps are more confident in your choices...I don't think that is lazy...in fact...I hope to get there one day :).
