Safe to eat? Hefty Roasting Pans!

This is more of a general food question that fitness related.

I was cooking a roast in one of those Hefty Roasting Pans and I just pulled it out (it's done) and I noticed juices on the outside of the pan. Along the base, it's separated and there's like a 1inch long opening along it. There's also a slight discoloration of the material (granted it's been cooking for 3 hours with meat, juices, etc). This is the 2nd time it's happened to me (and last cuz I'm not buying this product anymore after this) and I'm just wondering if it's safe to eat. It wasn't crack before, so obviously it broke down due to whatever imperfection which then makes me wonder if some of w/e chemcials go into etc have no leached into the food. So what do you think... safe to eat?

Ummmm.....I don't know. I buy mine in bulk from sams and mine have never done that. Then again, I've never cooked anything in them for 3hrs. If I were going to cook something that long, I would probably use a real roasting pan or a dutch oven ...not the fart, the pan.

It's like an inch long, but it isn't a wide crack. I just pushed it wide so you can see it.

I'd be more worried about the state of your oven if the juices were leaking etc. Can't see why it would be unsafe to eat. Enjoy.

I think its safe. Just don't use those again for cooking that long. Apparently it can't handle it. Or, see if you can find a heavy duty one. Or put a cookie sheet under the pan next time since they keep ripping. I can't stand the idea of stuff spilling in the oven. It really bothers me.

I would say it's safe to eat - the prolonged exposure to the heat and maybe the pH of whatever you were cooking weakened the defect further? I believe they are made of aluminum and if your body doesn't absorb whatever may have leached, you excrete it out. But it's likely whatever was leached probably isn't significant enough to cause any undue harm if ingested, so I vote for eating it. And not buying the pans again, like you said you were going to do.

You'd figure a "Roasting pan for up to 10lbs" would handle 3 hours. I mean... how many 10lb turkeys cook in under 2 hours? Anyhow, lesson learned! Roasting pan is on the shopping list. I had dreamed of soaking those juices up with bread </3
