overeating vs mfp calorie goal

I've noticed that on days that I overeat, like 300-400 calories above the MFP goal calories, my weight doesn't change overall throughout the next week; sometimes I even lose weight. however, if i follow the Mfp goal calories, my weight will either plateau or even gain. Why does this happen? is this related to having a cheat day, and that the cheat day allows for your body to temporarily raise its metabolism?

400 calories is like 50g of fat, less than two ounces. You wouldn't be able to measure that on your scale if you put it on, and going above your MFP goal you may still be in a deficit and not put it on in the first place.0

Could be you don't eat enough usually and you are netting too low after exercise.0
