Dinner last night

OK, so I had date night with hubby, as kid1 and kid2 were at a birthday party. Hubby and I went to a little diner, and I had a burger and fries. Now, I readily admit that I should not have eaten the fries - they were awful! If I eat fries in the future, if I'm going to expend the calories to eat fries, they will have to be perfect. I'm not going to eat them, unless they are really good. The burger was really delicious. Juicy, with cheddar cheese, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and ketchup. YUMMY!

Know what? I don't feel badly at all. Usually, when I go off, I wind up berating myself. Not interested in going there anymore. I started tracking my food at the end of September. I'm down 9 pounds. I have a long way to go, but I feel so much better about myself than I did.when I started this part of my journey.

Yes, I'm still fat -- but the truth is that back in the day (read: 25+ years ago) when I was a size 2, I thought I was fat. You could see my hip and rib bones, and I thought I was fat. Now that I know what fat is for me (5'3 and 183 pounds at my heaviest), I have to re-assess my opinion of myself. I'm not a bad person because I had a terrific burger. I'll make better/different choices today, and life goes on. I'm a work in progress -- but hey, aren't we all?

Thanks for listening...

It's perfectly ok to have a burger; just fit it into your calorie goal. I don't have any foods that are off limits; I wouldn't be able to continue that lifestyle. I enjoy cooking, and I enjoy eating. I'm just being smarter about it. I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner, and welcome to MFP.

Could n't agree more especially when looking back at pictures of me.....even when I had just had a baby I was n't fat but I felt huge!!!!! But this is all about life choices and I think sustainability...I know I won't keep going if I cut out everything[ history tells me that]. So enjoy the burger...and as you say if you are going to have chips make them the yummiest ever to make it worth the calories!!

I agree that it's not worth eating bad calories unless they are REALLY tasty ones. I can't remember what it was, but I recall making an allowance to eat something junky at one time and I was SO disappointed because not only did it taste bad, but I had wasted a good chunk of calories on it. Last night I made this amazing chili and I went over 200+ cals because it was THAT good and I didn't feel bad at all.

Good for you on changing your opinion on yourself, and your way of thinking about food! This isn't just a physical journey, it's an emotional one too - and you are on the right track! :)

Ditto to managing your caloried count in a way that accomodates eating what you want on special ocassions! Otherwise we won't be able to make in the real world!
