What should I do?

My roomer gave me a belated birthday present this morning. (Thursday I turned 52) She's how I ended up joining MFP. She'd already given me a pair of shell earrings, but she somehow felt the need to buy me... wait for it... a 12 ounce box of Whitman's Private Reserve chocolates.

I've already eaten three of them. I told Mum to take the box and put it away.

:grumble: :noway:

Wait - this person is the one who introduced you to MFP and had already given you a lovely present? And THEN decides to throw in a box of chocolates? Call me cynical, but it sounds like sabotage to me... Thank her kindly, but never expect support from that quarter.

BTW - Happy Belated Birthday!!! :flowerforyou:

If you like it, then fit it into your diary, enjoy it, log it, make it last a while. Chocolate lasts a while so you don't have to have it all at once. That's what I'd do anyway. Chocolate isn't evil, and chocolate is not responsible for making you overweight. If you worry that you can't control yourself with it, then it's probably a good idea to have your mum ration it out to you. I know others would do differently and just not eat it at all but for me, this is not just a diet until I reach my goal, it's a long-term, hopefully permanent lifestyle change. Learning to cope with these kinds of temptations is part of the process. Learn to enjoying things in moderation, and stop when you've had enough. I know it's not that easy, but for me, it's a major part of my long-term success. Birthdays happen. Christmas happens. It's all part of life. Learning to enjoy small portions of things if and when you want them (and not eating them just for the sake of it) means that you have control over the food, not the other way round.

    Happy belated birthday!

    Thank you!

I actually did think, she's trying sabotage here, but Mum says, 'You know, she really likes you', so I guess it's all good.

I bring unwanted food into work all the time. I just might do this, thanks!

I don't know... "sabotage" seems a bit harsh to me. Not everyone sees getting healthier as completely restricting your food forever. I am passionate (obsessive maybe) about getting healthier, my weight loss, and MFP, but I still buy people chocolate, I bake things for people, and when it was my birthday, I appreciated the edible treats I was given. There's no ulterior motive on either side. I'm not saying the "everything in moderation" way is for everyone, but based purely on the info as given, I'm pretty sure her friend just wanted to give her a nice treat, not sabotage her.

    Happy belated birthday!

I've logged the 3 pieces I ate, and the rest are tucked away in Mum's bedroom. I don't want to see them again for a LONG time!

    Thank you!
