own it, process it, tell someone, refuse to keep it secret, be a friend to myself and do better tomorrow. as I learn better, I do better. No shame in having a bad day, just a setback, and a lesson for the future, if we allow it to be. When others need encouragement, show them your scars. :) great question, bravo for you for putting it out there!
  • Don't think that way dig in deep to your workout tomorrow and forget about today, that what I do. I had horrible day yesterday but didn't had a chance to workout today so tomorrow I will kill myself :) I work very hard everyday trying to burn over 800 cal a day 6 to 7 days a week and I do, i keep up with my goal but some days it's just messes up all your hard work and healthy eating, then I think a new day a new beginning and starting over again next day with positive attitude :)
  • Man that's an awsome answer....loved it. Thanks I am like this all the time. I try to do too much too quickly and if I eat outwith my calorific intake or have a take away I feel so self distructive and ashamed. Then I eat more thinking what the hell...ive messed it up already! Vicious circle x

Just accept it and move on. Make better choices tomorrow. Do not punish yourself or starve yourself to make up for it. Pour you energy into a workout and keep loving yourself.

Try to remember one bad day is not a reason to quit. You are human and you aren't going to be perfect all of the time. :flowerforyou:

Hi. I just read through your profile and I am sending you a big message to get back on that horse! It sounds like you might need a break from the scales. Maybe you could just have a few attainable goals: eat under my calories (set at a reasonable #1/week), exercise at least 2x a week, and drink 8+ glasses of water. Maybe your calories were set too low (ie 1200 or fewer) and now your body and your mind are revolting :-) Good luck. You can do it!
  • Thanks..hopetofaith... wow 800 calories at the gym that's hard going. My hrm makes me work sooooo hard for figures like that! Sometimes I wish I could steal the numbers on the cardio machine .

Well done to you for recovering!

For you to gain ten pounds in one day you'd have to eat what...35,000 calories?
It's just one day, start over from right now and forget about it. :)

I've had 4 really bad days in three months and I've still lost 22 pounds. :D
    you got this.

I don't know what you have lost in the past two weeks, but if you lost 1 pound per week, you would have had to eat an EXTRA 7,000 calories today to have blown all your hard work ( I doubt that you did that - so you have made progress). We are all human and there are days, circumstances, etc. that set us to eating. Just accept the fact that it happened and move on and remember we are all here to encourage you on. :flowerforyou:

When you were a little kid learning to ride a bike, what did you do when you fell over? You got back on. You didn't berate yourself. You didn't give up. You didn't quit riding a bike. You knew that falling down was part of the process.

Why is it as adults we stop understanding that success comes from "getting back on," and not "never, ever making a mistake?"

I just log it, and get back on track. Weight loss, especially when you consider maintenance, is a long term thing. It's not about one day, and it's not even about two weeks. It's what you do most of the time that counts.

I've had a really bad week and am terrified of the scales right now.. The only thing you can do is to accept it, put it behind you and look forward. You can't change whats been done but you can control the future!

Great job! Looks like you took the advice you were given, at least. Now just try to keep in mind that if you keep this up, it will become a lifestyle change. Just make sure there are more good days than bad, and when you need encouragement, ask for it!

    1. Log it.
    2. Start again the next day. Refuse to get negative and anxious.
    3. Drink lots of water to flush any sodium or alcohol bloating.
    4. Stay away from the scales for at least three days.

Wow, did I need to read this thread! I've had a very stressful week, so I kinda adopted a 'whatever' attitude. I didn't go totally overboard, but just not nearly as clean as I have been. I wrote a post on my wall this morning, to hold myself accountable. I also needed to see it in print to realize what I'd done. That to me is a good support-that I can tell my friends what I did, how I feel, and to move on. I refuse to let anything undo the progress I've worked so hard for. Today is a new day. You can do it too!

I tell myself that one day of eating bad won't make me unhealthy, just like one day of eating good won't make me a super model. Forgive yourself and try harder tomorrow.

Make sure that you use this to help you not slip up again (or at least slip up less) - sit down now and spend a minute or so really "feeling" how bad you feel right now (disappointed, guilty, despondent, sad etc, etc). Really try and take a mental photograph of how it feels - capture the moment. Then put it in a "box" in your head, and move on (as everyone else has sensibly said above). However, if you feel yourself about to slip up or make a bad choice in future, find that box, reach into it and remember that feeling. Take your time and use that feeling to help you with your future decision-making.

    Good luck!

Log it, accept it was a bad day and start again the next day with a clean slate.

Nobody is perfect, so you WILL make mistakes, make bad choices and have bad days - but the next day is a new start, so put it behind you and MOVE ON!!

I do not focus on any single day - why?

Because a single day will not make you hit your goal weight nor will it increase your current weight. It's the trend that sets the standard. For example consistently eating badly and not exercising will increase your weight and therefore also the opposite is true.

I aim to keep within my weekly totals with exercise and weight training included. This means a bad day is a non issue as my trend is kept in the right direction. If you're feeling bad about yourself so be it, but it's hardly worth the effort. Get yourself down the gym and do an extra hour - that'll soon focus your mind and aim to balance out this minor indiscretion by hitting your weekly totals. Best of luck.

Just chalk it up and move on. Tomorrow is a new day. That's why they call this a "journey" and not a "race." If you fall down, just get back up and try again! :flowerforyou:
